First look at Death in Paradise star’s next role in new BBC drama

As a lifelong cinema enthusiast who has seen more than a few sunsets (and sunrises, for that matter), I must say that the announcement of Tahj Miles’s new role in Mr Loverman has me genuinely excited! After bidding farewell to Marlon Pryce in Death in Paradise, I was starting to worry about the talented actor’s future on our screens. But fear not, dear viewers, for it seems that he will be gracing us with his presence once more!

Following the announcement earlier this year that Tahj Miles was leaving Death in Paradise, fans responded with a range of feelings since they had developed a strong affection for the character of the former criminal turned police officer in the beloved crime show.

Undoubtedly, enthusiasts of Miles’s acting will rejoice at the news that he’ll reappear on our screens shortly in a fresh character – here’s a thrilling sneak peek!

In the upcoming BBC series titled “Mr Loverman,” Miles will share screen time with notable actors such as Lennie James, Sharon D Clarke, Ariyon Bakare from “His Dark Materials”, Tamara Lawrance from “Time” and Sharlene Whyte from “Sherwood.”

For several years, Miles has been prominently featured on our screens, portraying Marlon Pryce in Death in Paradise. He initially appeared in the popular show in 2021 and underwent a significant transformation as his character evolved, eventually earning respect within the series.

It turned out unexpectedly that he left the show, as numerous viewers were taken aback by earlier episodes depicting his character’s strong commitment towards his sister who got a chance to relocate to Jamaica this year.

Nevertheless, his policing odyssey doesn’t stop here because JP managed to get him a position on another police department. Yet, the change will be significant as his captivating charm and clever quips will be conspicuously absent.

Currently, Miles has been cast as Daniel Walker, who is the son of Donna Whyte and will be seen as the grandson of both Carmel Clarke and Barrington. This role is for the play “Mr Loverman”.

Many people have eagerly awaited the release of this series, particularly as it’s based on Bernardine Evaristo’s bestselling book with the same title.

In the show’s promotional materials, you can see Miles alongside his co-stars, including Lawrence portraying his character Aunt Maxine. Additionally, there’s a glimpse of a scene featuring both of them.

Wearing a school outfit suggests that Miles might be portraying a character significantly younger than his past roles. Needless to say, this intrigues us!

From my perspective as a film enthusiast, here’s how I might rephrase the synopsis for “Mr Loverman”:

“She is unaware of the truth: a hidden, intense relationship with his closest companion and soul mate, Morris. As Barry approaches the last act of his existence, he finds himself at a crossroads where decisions must be made, which could lead his entire family to reconsider their own futures.”

In addition to the main actors, the ensemble features Suzette Llewellyn from EastEnders, Lochlann Ó Mearáin known for Joyride, Hopi Grace from Boiling Point, Llewella Gideon of Top Boy, Doreene Blackstock in Sex Education, Kobna Holdbrook-Smith from The Split, Juliet Garricks recognized from Murder, They Hope, and Clint Dyer who starred in Mine. Each one plays a supporting role.

Mr Loverman will be released on BBC One and iPlayer later this year.
