Nintendo officially announced today that Pokémon LeafGreen and FireRed are coming to Nintendo Switch on February 27th – Pokémon Day! The announcement confirms earlier rumors. This will be accompanied by a new Pokémon Presents presentation. While there isn’t a special version for a potential Switch 2, the games will work on the system. However, unlike some other classic Game Boy Advance titles, you’ll need to purchase LeafGreen and FireRed separately, as they won’t be added to the Nintendo Switch Online service.

Despite their often clashing personalities, both characters share a common goal: to become heroes like All Might. This shared ambition usually unites them in battles, even when they’re arguing. While they don’t team up as often as some other famous rivals, their collaborations are always impactful, showcasing their common ground and reminding us why it’s so rewarding to see rivals work together.

The popular manga series began in 2020 and is ongoing, with the anime adaptation premiering in January. A live-action film is planned for release in Fall 2026. Kentarō Takemura, a director known for Japanese dramas and films like Trillion Game and Our Secret Diary, will direct. Shunsuke Michieda and Seira Anzai will play the lead roles of Kohaku Ichimura and Yoi Takiguchi. Although a trailer isn’t available yet, the official website has released a first look at the main characters.
