As a longtime fan of British theatre and television, I can’t help but be thrilled by the prospect of seeing David Morrissey grace the stage once more for a musical performance. Having witnessed his electrifying tango in Blackpool back in 2004, I’ve been eagerly awaiting another chance to see him dance and sing on stage.
It appears another well-known British actor is considering joining the competition for a vibrant, comprehensive, melodious, and dance-filled musical production.
David Morrissey, back on our TVs this week with the BBC sitcom “Daddy Issues,” expressed enthusiasm for taking part in a musical production. His interest was piqued after witnessing two of his latest acting partners grace the stages of London’s West End.
As a devoted admirer, witnessing Aimee Lou Wood shine in Cabaret left me spellbound! Similarly, David Fynn’s performance in School of Rock was simply breathtaking. Oh, the envy that seizes me as I watch their talent unfold on stage!
“If I had a magic wand, I’d change myself into someone that could do a bit of that.”
During an interview with TopMob magazine, he mentioned that one aspect he enjoys about attending a live musical theater performance is the ability to truly relax, as he doesn’t typically partake in such activities and thus, can simply enjoy watching without having to take notes.
If there are any doubters among you, it’s important to note that Morrissey has previously dabbled in the world of musical theater. Back in 2004, he starred in a musical drama titled Blackpool, which revolved around a murder at a Blackpool amusement park. In this production, he shared the stage with David Tennant and notably performed a memorable tango to Nancy Sinatra’s “These Boots Are Made for Walkin'”.
Reflecting on it now, Morrissey expressed, “Performing at Blackpool was a joy for me as it allowed me to sing and dance. I wish I had more talent in those areas.”
Moving onto the topic of his desired part in musical theater, Morrissey expressed immediate interest in performing in a Stephen Sondheim production, specifically mentioning “Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street.”
“I’ve just watched Merrily We Roll Along on Broadway, featuring Daniel Radcliffe and Jonathan Groff. It was absolutely fantastic!”
Well, if there’s any West End casting agents reading this, you heard the man!
