Emmys 2024: Schitt’s Creek’s Eugene Levy, Dan Levy To Host

Emmys 2024: Schitt's Creek's Eugene Levy, Dan Levy To Host

As a seasoned gamer with a soft spot for television and a deep appreciation for comedy, I must say I’m thrilled about this year’s Emmys hosting duo – Eugene and Dan Levy! Having grown up watching their hilarious antics on “Schitt’s Creek,” it feels like the perfect choice to bring that charm to the Emmy stage.

As a dedicated fan, I’m thrilled to share that this fall, the legendary father-son duo from “Schitt’s Creek,” Eugene Levy and Dan Levy, will be gracing the stage as hosts for the prestigious Emmy Awards! Historically, the network airing the broadcast tends to choose their host from their ranks, often comedians who can inject some humor into the event. This year, ABC, the network that’s hosting the broadcast, has opted for a different approach and selected the Levy pair to helm this year’s Emmys. Jimmy Kimmel, a natural choice for ABC, is giving way to these talented comedians. Can’t wait to see what they bring to the table!

In 2020, Eugene and Dan Levy had a memorable night at the Emmys with their show Schitt’s Creek. This comedy series broke a record by winning an impressive seven Emmy Awards in the comedy category. The Levys have experience as hosts, having previously hosted the 2020 Screen Actors Guild Awards. Interestingly, the announcement of the Emmy host has been coming closer and closer to the premiere date, with the 2024 Emmys scheduled for September 15th. Jimmy Kimmel, who had hosted the last three times ABC had the broadcast rights, decided not to do it again this time.

As a gamer, I’d put it like this: “Whenever we need someone, Jimmy’s the one we turn to first,” Dana Walden, co-chair of Disney Entertainment, shared with The Hollywood Reporter in July. “He’s our top pick when it comes to partners. He embodies our company so perfectly, and his work is nothing short of exceptional… but running a daily show sure takes a lot of effort.”

2024 Emmy Award nominees announced

As a dedicated gamer, I’m always excited about the announcements for the big leagues, like the Primetime Emmy Awards. On July 17th, the nominees for the 76th edition were unveiled by presenters Sheryl Lee Ralph and Tony Hale. Shows that previously took home awards such as Succession, Ted Lasso, and Better Call Saul all wrapped up last year, leaving a gap. Newcomers like Beef and The Last of Us didn’t manage to release a new season in time for the nomination consideration period. However, there are still some familiar faces – The Bear, Abbott Elementary, Only Murders in the Building, and The Crown among them – ready to step up to the plate once more. The race is on!

Chris Abrego, Emmys head, expressed that we are gathered to acknowledge the extraordinary work broadcast from June 2023 to May 2024, culminating in television’s grandest event. Prior to the announcement of nominations, he shared his pride in recognizing the outstanding achievements within our creative circle.

In the humor genre, “The Bear” ruled supreme last year, leading the pack with an impressive 23 nominations across various categories such as writing, directing, and technical aspects. This is a record no comedy series has previously achieved in a single year. Meanwhile, “Shogun” showed similar dominance, garnering 25 total nominations in the drama category. Although this fell short of breaking the record, it still outpaced “The Bear’s” previous mark by two nods.
