BeatKing, Houston Rapper Also Known as Club Godzilla, Dead at 39

As a devoted follower of Houston hip-hop, the news of Justin Riley’s passing has left me devastated and heartbroken. Known by his stage names BeatKing and Club Godzilla, he was an iconic figure who brought joy, laughter, and pure energy to the club scene for over a decade.

The Houston club community is mourning the loss of a beloved star.

Justin Riley, a Houston-based rapper who performed and produced music under the names BeatKing and Club Godzilla, died on Aug. 15, his manager confirmed. He was 39.

“On August 15, 2024, it’s with great sadness that we announce the passing of BeatKing, who was affectionately known as @clubgodzilla. Tasha Felder, his manager, posted this on Instagram. For more than a decade, BeatKing has been an integral part of our club, leaving an indelible mark through his music production and collaborations with countless artists. His unique sound will continue to resonate for generations.”

Further on, Felder pointed out that Riley, a dad to Jayla (age 13) and Kayla (age 12), impacted people in ways that extended far beyond his musical career.

“He cherished his daughters, his music, and his fans at clubgodparenting,” she noted. “His love will be eternal.”

Riley’s manager later confirmed that he had died from a pulmonary embolism.

As a lifestyle expert, I’d rephrase it as follows: “I was at an Urban One (Radio One) station hosting a morning show when I unexpectedly lost consciousness. I was quickly transported to a nearby hospital, but unfortunately, I didn’t make it. My dear daughters were by my side throughout this ordeal. It’s incredibly unfortunate; we cherished him deeply.”

39-years-old, he first gained prominence back in 2010 with his popular song “Crush.” Since then, he has worked together with artists like Megan Thee Stallion, 2 Chainz, T-Pain, and even shared a stage with Nicki Minaj at Houston Gag City in May.

Riley, famed for designing amusing T-shirts himself, consistently focused on creating music brimming with laughter and enjoyment throughout his professional journey.

2022 saw me expressing my thoughts to HotNewHipHop News: “It’s simply who I am.” You see, I can’t stand being in the depths of despair. Even when life throws me lemons (or worse), I detest feeling down. So, when I attempt to discuss genuine matters, I always strive to infuse a sense of vitality into them.

Beyond his successful music career, which has such a devoted following that he joked about inciting “minor” disturbances in public places in Texas, Riley was also candid about his love for fatherhood. He maintained a separate Instagram account, Club God Parenting, where he affectionately referred to his daughters as “Thing 1” and “Thing 2.”

Riley frequently posts about his frequent outings with his daughters, such as shopping trips, movie nights, and even attending Beyoncé’s “Renaissance” concert film together while wearing coordinating outfits. He playfully nicknames these outings as their own little “adventures,” or sometimes humorously calls them “group activities.”

And many people in Riley’s life noted his impact as they grieve.

DJ General Mealz shared on X (previously known as Twitter) on August 16th: “I’ve come across countless posts featuring BeatKing with regular folks who snapped photos with him, and DJs, musicians who collaborated with him. This clearly demonstrates his long-term grind. The man was unique.”

As a devoted follower, I too am deeply mourning the loss of this legendary figure. Just as one fan expressed on Riley’s Instagram, “Texas will never be the same without the magic of the clubs.”
