Logan Co-Writer Says Deadpool & Wolverine Opening Scene Was a "Huge Compliment"

As a long-time fan of both Deadpool and Wolverine, I must say that the recent film, Deadpool & Wolverine, has truly exceeded my expectations. The way they paid homage to the ending of Logan was not only unexpected but also incredibly respectful. It felt more like a tribute than an attempt to change the original storyline.

The pairing of Deadpool and Wolverine has delivered numerous unexpected moments in cinemas worldwide, earning over $1 billion and spawning a multitude of memes. The movie’s unconventional humor is evident right from the start, as Wade Wilson/Deadpool unearths the remains of Logan Howlett/Wolverine (Hugh Jackman) to demonstrate that he miraculously survived the somber ending of 2017’s Logan. However, upon discovery, it becomes clear that Logan has indeed perished, and his Adamantium bones are utilized for combat against a horde of TVA agents during the film’s opening credits. In an interview with IGN, screenwriter and co-writer of Logan, Michael Green, shared his response to Deadpool & Wolverine’s tribute, expressing that he was in no way offended by the movie’s playful subversion of the ending of his film.

Initially, folks had cautioned me about the premiere of “Deadpool & Wolverine”, saying something along the lines of ‘I’m not so sure how you’ll feel about it.’ However, I thought I had a pretty good idea. Boy, was I wrong! I didn’t anticipate them pushing the boundaries that far. The scene where they seemingly dig up and resurrect Wolverine wasn’t intended to be taken literally, it felt more like a tribute or homage to Logan rather than an attempt to alter its ending. Honestly, it seemed less like they were trying to top Logan, but rather striving to create a movie that was equally impressive, which is a massive compliment! I saw it as nothing but a testament to the greatness of Logan.

Green went on to say, “That movie is just pure fun! When we watched it in a packed theater, the audience went wild over every scene. It’s fantastic. It’s an excellent franchise – I’d love to see more of it!” He also mentioned, “I have to admit, I was relieved there were no Green Lantern jokes because I played a role in its creation… Wearing that as a badge of honor is something I take pride in!”
