Over the past several months, production has been underway, and various set photos have surfaced online, offering sneak peeks into the project – such as the actual superhero outfits for characters like Michael Holt / Mr. Terrific (Edi Gathegi), Kendra Saunders / Hawkgirl (Isabela Merced), and Guy Gardner / Green Lantern (Nathan Fillion). In a recent conversation with Deadline, Isabela Merced hinted at her character’s “tough” super-suit and helmet for Hawkgirl, aligning with fan speculations that the costumes will have a particular narrative significance within the film’s storyline.
“Hey there, gaming buddies! So, some snaps of a game costume have popped up online, but you know James, he’s got a clear vision for this story. This particular suit seems tailored to fit that specific timeline in the tale. I can’t spill any more beans, but let me tell ya, the helmet is the bomb! It’s awesome, it’s badass, it’s spot-on perfect!”
Who Is DC’s Hawkgirl?
Hawkgirl, who initially appeared alongside Hawkman in Flash Comics #1, has gone through various transformations over time. One of these iterations is Shiera Sanders Hall, who was reborn as the Egyptian princess Chay-Ara’s reincarnation and Hawkman’s partner. In the Silver Age, their established storyline underwent a retcon, turning them into cosmic law enforcers hailing from the planet Thanagar, with Shiera now being called Shayera Hol. Later on in the 1980s, Shayera switched her superhero alias to Hawkwoman, a title she has retained since then.
In contemporary times, the character Hawkgirl is Kendra Saunders, initially introduced by writers James Robinson, David Goyer, and Scott Benefiel in the comic book series JSA: Secret Files #1. Originally a young Hispanic woman, Kendra took on Shiera Hall’s spirit after her tragic suicide, eventually accepting her fate as Hawkgirl and continuing to uphold this role today. Previously, Ciara Renée portrayed Kendra Saunders across multiple shows in The CW’s Arrowverse, marking the first time Hawkgirl was depicted in live-action.
