As a lifelong admirer of French cinema and its enigmatic stars, I am deeply saddened by the passing of Alain Delon. Born just five years before my own humble beginnings, we shared a love for the silver screen that transcended time and language barriers. His stoic performances, captivating presence, and raw emotion resonated with audiences worldwide, making him an icon and a true artist.
French actor Alain Delon has died at the age of 88, his family has confirmed.
In a tranquil farewell, the well-known actor, recognized for his hard-edged character and magnetic screen presence, bid adieu in the comfort of his Douchy residence, with his three offspring and loved ones by his side.
Delon had been in poor health in recent years, and had suffered a stroke in 2019.
“Alain Fabien, Anouchka, Anthony, and their beloved pet Loubo share the heartbreaking news of the decease of their dear father,” as per reports from French media.
“He quietly left this world at his home in Douchy, with his three kids and extended family by his side.”
“His family asks you to please respect his privacy, in this extremely painful time of mourning.”
1935 marked the birth of Alain Delon, who became a household name in the 1960s through iconic roles such as The Leopard and Rocco and His Brothers. Across his illustrious career spanning over 90 films, he left an indelible mark on cinema.
Known for his stoic portrayals, frequently cast as handsome characters grappling with internal struggles, and susceptible to intense emotional outbursts, he was likened to “the male Brigitte Bardot”.
Among his acclaimed acting jobs were appearances in films like “Purple Midday,” “Women Are Feeble,” and “Monsieur Chic.”
I had the privilege of witnessing his most recent significant public event in May 2019, where he was bestowed with an honorary Palme d’Or at the prestigious Cannes Film Festival. It was truly a moment to remember.
In an emotional speech he appeared to bid farewell to cinema.
He mentioned that it’s somewhat a tribute given after his lifetime, but he will be departing. However, before he goes, he wanted to take the opportunity to express his gratitude towards you.
Tributes have been flooding in for Delon following the tragic news of his passing.
