Nintendo Switch Getting Free Emio - The Smiling Man Episodic Demo This Month

As someone who’s been around the gaming block a few times and has seen the rise and fall of many beloved franchises, I must say that the anticipation for “Emio – The Smiling Man: Famicom Detective Club” is palpable. Being a fan of detective games and Nintendo classics, this revival of an almost-forgotten series is like unearthing a long-lost treasure.

As a long-time fan of the Nintendo Entertainment System and the classic Famicom Detective Club series, I am beyond excited to finally get my hands on “Emio – The Smiling Man: Famicom Detective Club” for the Nintendo Switch! However, I know that many fellow gamers might be hesitant about trying out this game, especially if they haven’t played the original versions. That’s why I think it’s fantastic that Nintendo has decided to release a special demo, split into three parts, allowing players to experience the game’s prologue and first three chapters!

  • Prologue + Chapter 1- August 19th at 6 p.m. PT
  • Chapter 2- August 22nd at 6 p.m. PT
  • Chapter 3- August 27th at 6 p.m. PT

The game titled “Emio – The Smiling Man” marks the latest addition to the Famicom Detective Club series in over thirty years. Originating on the Famicom video game console, which is essentially the Japanese version of the NES, this series was previously exclusive to Japan until quite recently. In 2021, the first two games in the series were remastered and released for the Nintendo Switch. Since many North American gamers are unfamiliar with this series, offering a demo is an excellent strategy, as it allows players to gauge whether “Emio – The Smiling Man” will resonate with them.

On August 29th, the full version of “Emio – The Smiling Man: Famicom Detective Club” is set to be released. Two days prior to that, a demo chapter will be made available. Distributing content gradually helps build player interest, rather than releasing everything at once. This marketing strategy for the game has been quite unconventional, with Nintendo starting it off about a month ago by releasing a cryptic teaser without any information. Six weeks later, they officially announced the game’s release date. Whether this unusual approach will be successful is yet to be seen, but we hope that “Emio – The Smiling Man” will find its audience!
