Persona 3 Reload Producer Shoots Down Hopes for Addition of P3P's Female Protagonist

As a long-time fan of the Persona series, I must say, Atlus has always managed to surprise and delight us with their innovative twists and turns. However, this latest decision to not include the female protagonist from Persona 3 Portable in Persona 3 Reload feels like a punch to the heart for many fans who have been eagerly awaiting her return.

In simpler terms, the team responsible for producing “Persona 3 Reload” has confirmed that the female main character from “Persona 3 Portable” will likely not be included in the new remake. Since “Persona 3 Reload” is set to receive additional content from “Persona 3 FES,” it essentially covers all versions of “Persona 3” except for one character, Kotone Shiomi, who was playable only in “P3P.” Despite numerous fan requests, it’s clear now that Atlus does not plan on introducing the female main character from “Persona 3” into “Persona 3 Reload.”

In a recent chat with Game Informer (through PC Gamer), Persona’s franchise producer Kazuhisa Wada shared that Atlus had considered incorporating the female protagonist from P3P into Persona 3 Reload for its upcoming DLC. However, as they discussed this idea, it became clear just how much work would have been required to make it happen. Since this process would have taken too long after the release of Persona 3 Reload for it to remain relevant, Atlus decided to abandon the plan.

As further discussions unfolded, it grew increasingly clear that releasing P3R at this time, considering the development challenges and costs, would not be feasible. Given the current enthusiasm among players for the newly released P3R, any potential additional release must occur promptly. Unfortunately, due to the constraints of our window, we can’t present P3R with a female protagonist at this time. I deeply apologize to those fans who had been eagerly anticipating this possibility, but it seems unlikely that it will ever come to fruition.

Although it may be disheartening to learn this, it’s difficult to argue against the choice made by Wada and Atlus. To adapt Persona 3 Reload with a new main character would have required extensive rewriting and re-recording of the entire story. However, the bright side is that Persona 3 Portable, featuring the Female Protagonist (FeMC), has been accessible on modern gaming platforms since 2023, making it convenient for players who wish to experience her storyline.

Moving forward with Persona 3 Reload, the game will soon introduce its upcoming expansion titled “Episode Aigis: The Answer“, set to debut on September 10th next month. Following this, Atlus will roll out a new RPG series’ first installment, “Metaphor: ReFantazio“, on October 11th in the following month. This Japanese studio’s latest RPG franchise will be introduced with this release.
