The Incredible Hulk #800: Marvel Announces Giant-Sized Milestone Issue

As a long-time fan who has witnessed the Hulk’s transformative journey over the past six decades, I can confidently say that the Green Goliath has become more than just a character to me – he’s an emblem of resilience, anger, and ultimately, redemption. The upcoming Incredible Hulk #800 promises to deliver another thrilling chapter in this saga, with a titanic showdown between the Hulk and Eldest, and the return of Charlie Tidwell, who seems to have acquired an intriguing new power.

The question posed by Stan Lee and Jack Kirby in 1962’s Incredible Hulk #1 was, “Is he human or monster, or is he a blend of both?” This comic introduced the character of the Hulk, who is half-man, half-monster and the alter-ego of scientist Dr. Bruce Banner. The grey-skinned Hulk was born from Banner’s invention of a gamma-ray bomb. Although the initial volume of the man-monster’s solo series only lasted six issues, the Hulk would go on to become a recurring character, first as part of the Avengers team and later in Tales to Astonish.

Over the next six decades, the green goliath — who starred in his full-length magazine starting in 1968’s The Incredible Hulk #102, taking over the numbering from Tales to Astonish — headlined Hulk and such newly-retitled relaunches as Indestructible Hulk and Immortal Hulk.

In November, the ongoing story of Philip Kennedy Johnson and Nic Klein on Incredible persists with Incredible Hulk #19 (equivalent to issue #800), a supersized special issue that includes the next installment of the “Skin” narrative and additional tales by previous Hulk writer Greg Pak, Benjamin Percy, Torunn Gr?nbekk, and art by Geoff Shaw, Lan Medina, and Lynne Yoshii. This is essentially saying that the current run by Philip Kennedy Johnson and Nic Klein on Incredible comic series continues with a special issue of Incredible Hulk, featuring the continuation of the “Skin” story arc along with bonus stories from various writers and artists.

The magazine, scheduled for release on November 27th, presents fresh stories focusing on various Hulks such as Bruce Banner’s cousin Jennifer Walters/She-Hulk, Amadeus Cho/Brawn, and Thaddeus Ross/Red Hulk. This issue will also set the stage for a brand new solo series centering around a member of the extended Hulk family, which Marvel plans to introduce in early 2025, possibly timed with Red Hulk’s MCU debut in Marvel Studios’ “Captain America: Brave New World” in February.

As a gamer, I’d put it like this: “After getting walloped by Eldest, I find myself enslaved and the Mother of Horrors is about to make her move! My only hope lies in the recently revived Charlie Tidwell, who’s battling Lycana’s Skinwalkers to rescue me. But what hidden power did the Skinwalkers awaken within her to bring her back? Could this enigmatic new strength give me the upper hand I need to take down both the Skinwalkers and the indomitable Eldest?”

“Johnson expressed great pride in contributing to a milestone edition of a widely recognized comics series. He emphasized that they won’t squander this chance. The long-awaited battle between Hulk and Eldest is coming, alongside Nic Klein’s most extreme Hulk metamorphosis yet. Readers will be astounded by an astonishing revelation concerning Hulk’s companion Charlie. Additionally, there’ll be a total reshuffle that’ll thrust us into new, unexplored territories starting from 2025.”
