Dead Cells: The End is Near Update is Now Live

As a seasoned gamer who has traversed countless virtual landscapes and slain legions of digital foes, I must admit that the release of “Dead Cells’ The End is Near” update has filled me with a sense of bittersweet nostalgia. This game, which I’ve poured countless hours into over the past few years, is now reaching its conclusion, marking the end of an era.

Approximately a year after its initial announcement, the final update for the game “Dead Cells” titled “The End is Near” has been released. Initially, it entered alpha testing on Steam in August 2023, signaling the end of support for this celebrated side-scrolling action rogue-like. You can watch the release trailer below, which offers a glimpse into the game’s incredible journey and features messages from the development team.

In “The End is Near”, three fresh weapons – Anathema, Indulgence, and Misericorde, along with three new challenging foes called Sore Loser, Doom Bringer, and Curser – are introduced. These troublesome creatures inhabit Cursed Biomes, which can be dangerous to explore but may yield equipment that’s one level superior. Additionally, there’s a greater possibility of stumbling upon Cursed treasure chests.

Additional content introduces 20 fresh Legendary Enchantments and flaming character-like heads such as those resembling the Time Keeper and the Queen. Moreover, links between various biomes have been modified, enabling players to traverse areas from the Castlevania DLC in a single playthrough.

Although Dead Cells no longer receives support, Evil Empire is busy developing The Rogue Prince of Persia. Meanwhile, Motion Twin is preparing their cooperative-centric roguelike game, Windblown, for early access release this year.
