Samara Weaving's Azrael Unleashes First Trailer

As a die-hard fan of Samara Weaving’s action-packed performances and indie genre movies, I am beyond excited about the upcoming release of Azrael! The trailer has piqued my curiosity, and the pedigree behind it – with E.L. Katz at the helm and Simon Barrett penning the script – promises a rollercoaster ride of suspense, horror, and action.

Following triumphs at film festivals earlier this year and securing distribution deals, the movie starring Samara Weaving titled “Azrael” has unveiled its first trailer. Continuing her trend of action-packed hits, Weaving has previously appeared in films like “Mayhem“, “Ready or Not“, and “Scream VI“. Directed by E.L. Katz, who is known for his work on “Cheap Thrills” and SYFY’s “Channel Zero“, as well as the writer of “The Guest” and “Seance“, Simon Barrett, fans of indie genre films are sure to recognize this dynamic duo. Take a look at the first trailer for “Azrael” before it hits select theaters on September 27th.

In a silent world, a secretive, religious group pursues a woman named Azrael (Samara Weaving), who has managed to break free from their confinement. Caught by its relentless leaders, she is destined for sacrifice to quell an evil lurking in the surrounding wilderness. However, Azrael will go to great lengths to preserve her freedom and life. Born from the harsh, unyielding narrative of sacrifice and redemption, emerges a gripping, live-action, horror story, crafted by the creative minds of Simon Barrett and E.L. Katz.

Over on Rotten Tomatoes, the film has scored a 65% positive score based on two dozen reviews.

Christian Zilko from IndieWire commented about the movie Azrael: “Despite all the creative and technical innovations in horror filmmaking, what truly terrifies us remains unchanged. Katz and Barrett seem to grasp this concept, as they built their boundary-testing production around a theme that might have been used during the very first nights when our ancestors told horror stories – a girl encounters something frightening in the dark woods, it chases her, and she must flee faster. Azrael serves as a reassuring nod to the fact that even after millions of years, humans are still discovering unique ways to reinterpret our ancient, primal fears.”

As I sit down to share my thoughts on the gripping post-apocalyptic horror flick, Azrael, let me tell you, it was a rollercoaster ride from start to finish! The talented Samara Weaving plays a mute outcast in this intriguing blend of folk and survival horror, brought to life by screenwriter Simon Barrett (You’re Next) and director E.L. Katz (Cheap Thrills).

Azrael lands in select theaters on September 27th.
