Garth Ennis’ Crossed to Get Movie Adaptation

As a fan with a penchant for dark and gritty storylines, I can hardly contain my excitement about the upcoming film adaptation of “Crossed”. Having grown up on Garth Ennis‘ brutal yet brilliant works like “Preacher” and “The Boys”, I have come to expect nothing less than pure chaos and unapologetic violence. The concept of a zombie-like pandemic that turns people into homicidal maniacs, while retaining their intellect, is both terrifying and intriguing, promising a unique take on the genre.

The gritty series “Crossed,” co-created by Garth Ennis (of “The Boys”) and artist Jacen Burrows, has been selected for a movie adaptation. Ennis himself has penned the screenplay, which is set in a world reminiscent of a zombie outbreak. In “Crossed,” humanity grapples with a relentless pandemic, and those infected develop a cross-shaped mark on their faces, causing them to act upon their darkest impulses. Unlike typical zombie narratives, these individuals maintain their intelligence but are driven insane instead.

According to THR reports, Six Studios has purchased the script for the film, intending to fund its production. Ennis, who has previously achieved success in television with shows like Preacher and The Boys, is known for adapting material that includes intense violence and explicit content. Given this pattern, it seems likely that the movie version of Crossed will also receive a hard R-rating.

As depicted in the account, the film draws its inspiration from the initial ten-issue storyline of “Crossed,” which was published between 2008 and 2010. After this, several miniseries were released, continuing until 2015. In total, over 200 issues were compiled into 24 trade paperback collections from 2010 to 2017. Besides the original creator, other notable contributors to the comic series include Alan Moore, David Lapham, and Si Spurrier.

Six Studios are currently looking for a director for the movie.

According to the information provided, Ennis and Burrows are back together for a fresh swords-and-sorcery comedy titled “Babs“. This comic book debuted from Ahoy! Comics recently, with its initial issue hitting comic book stores a week ago.

For quite some time now, the concept of sword and sorcery has been on my mind, ever since I worked on Hawk the Slayer with Rebellion. It often comes across as a bit silly and sloppy, but it can also be quite enjoyable. Ennis recently shared this thought with ComicBook, stating that he and Jacen have collaborated for twenty years, developing an exceptional creative bond. Jacen is an exceptional storyteller who handles various topics effortlessly, but what sets him apart is his clear and precise storytelling style, which makes humor particularly easy to express.

As for “Crossed”, a specific launch date hasn’t been announced just yet. However, mark your calendars for September 18th as the second issue of “Babs” will hit the shelves then.
