As a long-time fan of both sports and WWE, I can’t help but feel a pang of nostalgia as Pat McAfee is stepping away from his commentary role, at least for now. His energy, wit, and genuine love for the world of sports entertainment have made him an integral part of Monday Night Raw since his return earlier this year.
Tonight’s episode of Monday Night Raw is set to bring another shakeup in the WWE, as Pat McAfee, who returned to commentary at the Royal Rumble in January and has been a regular on WWE Raw since then, will be going on an indefinite break from the WWE Universe. In a video shared via social media, he expressed his disappointment about this decision, stating, “I’m really sad that tonight will be my final visit to the fantastic WWE family for a while.”
As a sports enthusiast and media personality with a packed schedule, I can understand why McAfee might need to take some time off. The college football and professional football seasons are both ramping up, and between hosting ESPN’s College GameDay show, his daily radio program The Pat McAfee Show, and providing NFL coverage, it’s no wonder he’s feeling the pressure. With so many commitments, it’s not surprising that he needs to take a break to recharge and prepare for the busy season ahead. It’s always exciting to see talented individuals like McAfee at the top of their game, and I look forward to seeing what he accomplishes in the coming months.
Despite McAfee moving on from his football commentary role, he is being replaced by esteemed ESPN play-by-play announcer Joe Tessitore who will start with WWE Raw in September alongside Corey Graves and Wade Barrett. As previously announced, Cole will head the blue brand, SmackDown, although it’s undetermined who will join him as of now. McAfee concluded the video with an emotional message to WWE and its fans, stating “I’m excited for football season, but my place is with the WWE family, and I hope they feel the same.”
Tonight, CM Punk will kick off WWE Raw with a message directed at “The Scottish Warrior” following his attack on Drew McIntyre last week. Additionally, Randy Orton will make an appearance on the show to interact with the WWE Universe after his move against Gunther ahead of their title match at Bash in Berlin. What’s more, the Women’s Tag Team Championships are up for grabs as Alba Fyre and Isla Dawn face off against Shayna Baszler and Zoey Stark from Damage CTRL and Pure Fusion Collective respectively.
On Mondays at 8/7 central time, you can catch the thrilling events of WWE Raw on USA Network. In the interim, keep yourself updated with the freshest WWE news and developments by following ComicBook.
