As a seasoned gamer with over two decades of gaming under my belt, I must say that the reveal of Batman: Arkham Shadow has me truly excited! Having played every Arkham game since its inception, I can’t help but feel a sense of nostalgia and anticipation seeing this new VR title. The fact that it will be playable on Meta Quest 3 headsets is just the cherry on top.
The initial gameplay trailer for the upcoming VR title “Batman: Arkham Shadow,” developed by Meta and Camouflaj, has just been unveiled. Earlier in the year, Meta confirmed that they were working on a new VR installment within the Batman: Arkham series, which is planned to be released on Meta Quest 3 headsets in 2024. In anticipation of its release, scheduled for a few months from now, fans of Batman have been granted a sneak peek at the gaming experience that awaits them in this fresh perspective.
At Gamescom Opening Night Live, we got a fresh look at the latest trailer for Batman: Arkham Shadow, which runs for about two minutes. Unlike previous previews, this new video is entirely gameplay footage and showcases the various gameplay elements you’ll encounter in Arkham Shadow. Fans of the Batman: Arkham series might recognize some familiar features like Detective Vision and Predator Mode, both of which are featured in the game. Moreover, Camouflaj has transformed Batman’s signature combat style from the Arkham games into a first-person perspective for players to experience directly.
You can watch this new trailer for Batman: Arkham Shadow for yourself right here:
In the newest version of Arkham Shadow, according to Meta, you become Batman. Deliver crushing blows from above, glide towards unsuspecting adversaries, and blend into the shadows when needed. Camouflaj has redesigned the fundamental Arkham experience for VR, taking inspiration particularly from Batman: Arkham Asylum’s intricate level design. To save Gotham City, you must learn to utilize all of Batman’s skills. Set between the occurrences of Batman: Arkham Origins and Batman: Arkham Asylum, you’ll don the mantle of a relatively young Bruce Wayne, growing more confident as he confronts the Rat King, a new and dangerous criminal with a cult-like following.
Apart from unveiling the latest trailer for Batman: Arkham Shadow, Meta also shared a fresh cast list. Roger Craig Smith reprises his role as Batman, having previously played him in Arkham Origins. Troy Baker steps into the character of Harvey Dent, Tara Strong voices Harleen Quinzel, Mark Rolston portrays Commissioner Gordon, Khary Payton takes on Ratcatcher, Earl Baylon plays Lyle Bolton, Chelsea Kane is Barbara Gordon, and Martin Jarvis assumes the role of Alfred.
To wrap things up, Meta has given us a heads-up about the upcoming release of “Batman: Arkham Shadow”. While they haven’t set an exact date yet, we know for sure that the game will be available sometime in October 2024. What’s more, when it does come out, “Arkham Shadow” will only be playable on Meta Quest 3 devices.
