As a seasoned gamer and collector of Transformers figures spanning three decades, I must say that Takara Tomy’s reissue of Lio Convoy is a dream come true! The anime Beast Wars II was a pivotal part of my childhood, and the upgraded sculpt and paint of this figure truly bring back nostalgic memories. The Lion Claw and Lion Typhoon weapons are just the cherry on top for this iconic character. Pre-ordering from Entertainment Earth at $49.99 is an easy decision when considering the free U.S. shipping on orders $59+, and I can’t wait to add it to my collection in March 2025.

Recently, Takara Tomy has released an updated version of Lio Convoy in celebration of Transformers’ 40th anniversary. This revamped figure is intended to more closely resemble the character from the anime series Beast Wars II. It transforms between a robot and lion, and includes two weapons: the close-combat Lion Claw and the ranged Lion Typhoon.

In the United States, you can now pre-order this limited edition item at Entertainment Earth for $49.99 (with free shipping on orders above $59). Delivery is scheduled for March 2025, and you won’t be charged until it’s ready to be shipped.

If you haven’t come across it before, “Beast Wars: Transformers” was a groundbreaking animated series that began airing in 1996 and concluded in 1999, spanning over three seasons and 52 episodes for the Beast Wars brand. Unlike traditional Transformers shows where characters transform into vehicles like cars or planes, these characters transformed into animals instead. The continuity also saw series such as “Beast Machines,” “Beast Wars II,” and “Beast Wars Neo.” In “Beast Wars II: Super Life-Form Transformers,” Lio Convoy serves as the leader of the Maximals, working to shield planet Gaia from Galvatron and his Predacon forces.
