I was at Gamescom Opening Night Live – these 16 moments were my personal highlights

As a seasoned cinephile who’s attended more gaming events than I care to count, let me tell you that Gamescom Opening Night Live was a rollercoaster of excitement this year! The trailers were as enticing as popcorn on a movie night, and the atmosphere was electric.

Experiencing two hours of trailers amidst a crowd of new acquaintances in the dimly lit setting is quite intriguing, and that’s essentially what attending the Gamescom Opening Night Live entails – an evening brimming with excitement and anticipation for the latest gaming updates!

Having had the privilege to participate in this year’s Gamescom kick-off event in the flesh, I couldn’t help but jot down a few of my most memorable moments for your perusal. Of course, everyone has their unique preferences when it comes to gaming excitement!

The evening was enjoyable, and I’ll share my experiences from the event in the coming weeks. Additionally, we’ve got plenty of developer chats lined up for our gaming YouTube channel.

Gamescom Opening Night Live recap 2024 — My 16 highlights from the show

Borderlands 4 was revealed with a cool CGI trailer. Somehow this didn’t leak!

Known figure in the gaming industry, Peter Molyneux, recently revealed “Masters of Albion” – a god game set in an expansive open world that incorporates a survival system for night-time scenarios! Seems quite engaging.

As a passionate movie aficionado, I couldn’t help but feel a pang of excitement as I delved into the unveiling by Deadpool director Tim Miller – none other than Secret Level, an enticing Amazon Prime TV series set to grace our screens on the 10th of December. This captivating anthology show, reminiscent of his profound appreciation for video games, promises to transport us through cinematic trailers of epic proportions.

It has been officially announced that the release date for “Indiana Jones and the Great Circle” will be on 9th December 2024, available for both Xbox and PC platforms. Additionally, it is planned to launch the game on PS5 in the spring of 2025. A captivating new trailer was narrated by Troy Baker.

The Trailer for Goat Simulator Remastered was so humorously mysterious. It left everyone wondering which classic game was getting an upgrade next.

In the realm of gaming enthusiasts like myself, Dune Awakening has certainly piqued my interest with its innovative gameplay elements. For instance, it allows you to extract resources even from your adversaries in the unforgiving world of Arrakis. Every resource counts here! Slated for a release on PC early next year, and with hints that PlayStation and Xbox versions will follow later.

As a movie enthusiast, I must confess that the unveiling of “Dying Light: The Beast” left me quite intrigued. It was almost as if I were peeking into a suspenseful scene in the wilderness, with its eerie tension skillfully set to an upbeat guitar melody. But then, just when I least expected it, the trailer morphed into heart-pounding zombie-smashing gameplay! Needless to say, I’m thrilled to be back on the action again!

Geoff Keighley excitedly showcases the trailer for “King of Meat“, an action-packed cooperative game developed by creators who construct dungeons and subsequently battle through them. A subtle nod to its origin is given with the mention that it was created in Guildford, a charming town located in Surrey.

The initial gameplay trailer for Batman: Arkham Shadow was unveiled, and it appears remarkably similar to the fast-paced combo-centric gameplay of the original Arkham series. This VR spinoff is set to release on October 22nd, 2025.

It appears that the origins of the Mafia: The Old Country have been unveiled! Given its apparent connection to the well-known crime series, one can surmise that this could serve as a prequel to the franchise, immersing us in the world of Italian mobsters once more.

As a long-time fan of both Squid Game and Fall Guys, I am beyond excited to share my thoughts on the upcoming Netflix production: Squid Game Unleashed. Having grown up playing games like Squid Game in South Korea, the original series resonated deeply with me, tapping into universal themes of competition, survival, and the human spirit.

As a cinephile, I’ve got to say, it’s exciting to see The Witcher’s Anya Chalotra appearing in the trailer for Unknown 9: Awakening. From what I can tell, it seems to be an action-packed fantasy game that also incorporates elements of stealth.

The long-awaited third installment of Monument Valley, complete with its initial trailer and launch date, has been unveiled! Featuring captivating art style reminiscent of painting and intriguing brain teasers, this game is definitely worth keeping an eye on.

Tonight, the Rev-8 update for Starfield will finally bring drivable vehicles into the game! The highly anticipated Shattered Space DLC is set to launch on September 30, 2024.

A rather unusual teaser trailer for “Infinite Nikki” caught my eye! The main character’s name is sung in squeaky animal voices in a repetitive manner. There were some brief glimpses of the gameplay, but I’m still unsure about what this game entails. It provided a refreshing change in style and mood nonetheless.

The latest Marvel Rivals trailer showcases Captain America and The Winter Soldier, accompanied by gameplay clips. It’s set to release on the 6th of December!
