Picture of Dorian Gray Reboot in the Works From Netflix and Berlanti Productions

As a seasoned gamer with a deep appreciation for both literature and pop culture, I can barely contain my excitement about Netflix’s upcoming series, “The Grays.” The modern twist on Oscar Wilde’s classic novel, “The Picture of Dorian Gray,” promises to be an enthralling exploration of our society’s obsession with eternal youth set against the backdrop of the contemporary beauty industry.

In an exciting update, it seems that Oscar Wilde’s timeless novel, “The Picture of Dorian Gray,” is set to receive a contemporary reimagining. Reports on Tuesday confirmed the development of “The Grays,” a live-action streaming series by Berlanti Productions and Warner Bros. Television on Netflix. The duo behind the screenplay for this new series are Katie Rose Rogers, who previously worked on “Supergirl,” and Robbie Rogers from “All American.” Their past collaboration was on “Fellow Travelers.” The production team will include Greg Berlanti, Sarah Schechter, Leigh London Redman from Berlanti Prods., as well as Rina Mimoun as showrunner and Lee Toland Krieger as the pilot episode director. This isn’t the first project by Berlanti Productions for Netflix; they are also working on a new live-action version of “Scooby-Doo.”

The show titled “The Grays” is a modern interpretation of the timeless theme of our obsession with perpetual youth, as portrayed by Oscar Wilde, set within the contemporary landscape of the cosmetics industry. Unlike traditional gothic novels, this series centers around the relationship between siblings Basil and Doran Gray.

Will Greg Berlanti Return to DC?

Currently, I’m thrilled to find that Berlanti Productions is connected only to one DC TV series – the upcoming final season of The CW’s “Superman & Lois.” In a recent chat with Deadline, Berlanti mused over the monumental endeavor that the Arrowverse turned out to be, and graciously acknowledged that the broader DC universe is now under the capable leadership of James Gunn and Peter Safran at DC Studios.

Berlanti shared that the project was a unique experience for him, involving one specific plan that we successfully executed. He cherished the strong relationships he built with many actors, writers, directors, and colleagues during this period, forming a tight-knit family. Each year, they would create grand crossover episodes where various showrunners from different shows would collaborate. This collaboration was both a source of joy and immense challenge. However, he doesn’t plan to recreate that experience right now as it seemed quite singular. He holds Warner Bros. in high regard and wishes them continued success with these beloved characters. His motto throughout was to ensure these characters were left on the shelf more valuable than when they were taken off, and his aim was to establish a world where everyone who loved them could tell stories. Now, he believes it’s time for new beginnings; the torch has been passed on beautifully, and he’s eager to see what they accomplish there now.
