Sherwood’s David Morrissey hints at deeper relationship for Ian St Clair and Julie

As a lifelong aficionado of British television, I eagerly await the return of Sherwood for its second season. Having seen my fair share of broken marriages and complex relationships unfold on screen, I can relate to the struggles that DCS Ian St Clair faces in his personal life.

Actor David Morrissey from the show “Sherwood” hinted at a developing connection between his character, Detective Chief Superintendent Ian St Clair, and possible love interest Julie Jackson (played by Lesley Manville), as we move into season 2.

Later this month, the critically-acclaimed drama by writer James Graham is set to return, featuring DCS St Clair in a challenging situation after his marriage ends in failure, causing him to find solace in Julie’s presence.

In this week’s edition of TopMob magazine, Morrissey reminisced about a significant incident from the initial season, where Ian dropped by Julie’s house. He seemed noticeably comforted just by being near her.

In his own words, he stepped into her home, and there was an atmosphere that made him feel at ease for the very first time. He wasn’t in the mood for alcohol, but under her care, he allowed himself to have a drink since he felt comfortable and secure around her.

Later on, as they sat on the couch preparing to watch Pointless, Morrissey described an action where he let out a contented sigh, saying, “Ahhaah.” He added that there was some mysterious quality in this moment, perhaps related to pheromones or other such things.

He went on to explain, “At that point, he senses a break from his past. It could potentially be risky, for he seems to cherish the era and a perfected concept.”

During the course of the conversation, Morrissey hinted at the deeper development of the relationship dynamic in Sherwood’s second season, offering fans a glimmer of optimism that the fate of his struggling character may take a turn for the better.

He continued by saying, “Right now, it’s all about love, but she also serves as a stabilizing force for him. The specifics of how it develops and what it ultimately becomes are yet to be seen.”

“It seems he reaches a point where there’s a touch of satisfaction and optimism. He certainly attains this state. However, he tends to be quite careful in his actions.”

Besides Morrissey and Manville, Sherwood also features Robert Glenister, Claire Rushbrook, and Lorraine Ashbourne, along with a number of other recognizable actors.
