In the recently released Prime Video documentary titled “Sven,” Sven-Göran Eriksson pens an emotional farewell note, reminiscing about his life experiences.
Having lost a dear family member to pancreatic cancer, I can empathize deeply with the former England manager’s diagnosis. Hearing about his prognosis, “maybe at best a year, at worst a little less, or at best maybe even longer,” struck me powerfully. Life is unpredictable, and this moment serves as a stark reminder of its fragility. I hope he finds solace in the support of loved ones and strength to face whatever comes next with courage and grace.
“You can’t be absolutely sure. It is better not to think about it,” he said at the time.
Sven-Göran Eriksson became the initial non-native coach for the England national team, guiding them through the 2002 and 2006 World Cup tournaments and the 2004 European Championships to the quarter-final stage.
Over the course of his management career, he additionally took on coaching roles for multiple teams such as Manchester City and Leicester City.
According to the Daily Mail’s documentary, Eriksson concluded with a poignant remark: “I lived a fulfilling life. It’s natural to fear the moment of death, yet life encompasses that aspect too.”
