EastEnders airs dramatic update for Sonia Fowler in early iPlayer release

As an ardent EastEnders fan who has watched the saga of Walford unfold for decades, I find myself utterly gripped by the latest twist in the Sonia Fowler and Reiss Colwell case. It’s been a rollercoaster ride, to say the least!

Since Sonia Fowler’s (portrayed by Natalie Cassidy) arrest together with her fiancé, Reiss Colwell (Jonny Freeman), the situation has significantly deteriorated for her on EastEnders.

At their engagement celebration, the couple found themselves being forcibly removed by law enforcement officers, leading to an intensive interrogation regarding the killing of Debbie throughout the following night.

In the investigation, Reiss proved to be successful, as the hidden culprit skillfully presented an ironclad alibi and lacked any discernible reason for slaying his spouse.

However, life presented a complex scenario for Sonia in another part of the house. On the night in question, she lacked an alibi, which cast doubt upon her, despite her honest account of her dealings with Debbie. In fact, her behavior during this incident raised quite a few suspicions.

It’s clear they had questions, as they pondered over her frequent visits to her partner’s former partner, her solitary trips there, and the discovery of her DNA on the pillow used to smother the unconscious woman.

Under some pressure from the questioning, Sonia occasionally showed signs of agitation, and this sometimes manifested as outbursts of annoyance, which ultimately didn’t help her case.

Towards the end of the show, Reiss felt a sense of relief when he learned that the Child Protective Services requested his release since they found insufficient proof against him.

But the same couldn’t be said for poor Son, who was charged with the murder of Debbie.

Will Sonia be able to prove her innocence? And will Reiss’s crimes ever be uncovered?

EastEnders airs Monday to Thursday at 7:30pm on BBC One and from 6am on BBC iPlayer.
