John Cena's New WWE Contract Secures His "Near and Long-Term Future"

As a gamer who has grown up with the WWE universe, John Cena’s announcement of his retirement next year feels like the end of an era. For over two decades, he has been a constant presence in my screen, and I can vividly remember countless late nights spent cheering for him as he battled his way to victory.

In 2025, it’s reported that John Cena will bid a fond farewell to professional wrestling, marking his final year of active competition. Last July at WWE Money in the Bank, he surprised the Toronto crowd by announcing this upcoming tour as his retirement from in-ring matches draws near, set for December 2024. Emphasizing that this swan song will span the entire year, Cena plans to participate in one last Royal Rumble, one final Elimination Chamber contest, and undoubtedly one more WWE WrestleMania match. By December, “Big Match John” as his fans know him, will have hung up his wrestling boots, but John Cena the individual will continue to represent WWE in an ambassadorial role.

Big Match John is poised to be a WWE lifer.

On Club Shay Shay, I’m thrilled to share that I’ve officially extended my commitment with the WWE family, ensuring my stay with them for the upcoming times.

In his own words, Cena expressed a deep bond with them that has lasted over two decades. He considers himself a devoted advocate for the brand and holds a strong affection for the company. To him, it feels like home. They are not just colleagues but family to him. Beyond 2025, he’s committed to maintaining his role within the WWE family, ensuring that his connection with them continues in the near future, as well as through the mid-term and long-term phases. He can’t imagine a moment when WWE won’t run through his veins.

Previously, Cena mentioned they were brainstorming around 30-40 dates for the year 2025, a mix of televised performances, premium live events, and house shows. His future contract with WWE beyond 2025 may resemble that of a Legend’s agreement, providing opportunities for merchandise collaborations and scheduled guest spots at fan events and WWE television programs, primarily for retired talent.

As a long-time member of the WWE family, I eagerly anticipate concluding my in-ring career on a high note. It’s important to clarify that I won’t be engaging in any physical activities during this final chapter. No guest refereeing, no unintentional table breaks, and so forth. Instead, I will embrace the role of a fan and an advocate, savoring every moment with the WWE community.

In January 2025, Cena begins his farewell tour, and the initial high-value live event is expected to be the grand spectacle known as the WWE Royal Rumble.
