As a seasoned gamer with over a decade of NBA 2K under my belt, I have to admit, the return of the Auction House in NBA 2K25’s MyTeam is a breath of fresh air. After the tumultuous year that was 2K24, it feels like the developers have finally listened to their playerbase and made the much-needed change.
2K24 players criticized the alterations made by developers to MyTeam, stating that they were a significant step backward compared to previous versions. A major issue was the removal of the player-managed Auction House, resulting in the developers controlling card pricing, making the mode appear more pay-to-win than ever before. This criticism persisted throughout the entire year. However, it seems like 2K has taken notice of the concerns raised by players. The latest announcement about NBA 2K25 brings good news: the Auction House is returning! Although there are many changes in NBA 2K25, the return of the Auction House is undoubtedly going to be the most well-received update.
In the star attraction of NBA 2K25, known as MyTeam, the Auction House serves as a central hub. The developers have streamlined this area by consolidating multiple menus into one convenient location for buying and selling player cards. To safeguard the market from unscrupulous activities like trading currency, they are implementing measures without revealing the exact details yet. However, they have made it clear that they maintain a strict policy against actions harmful to the mode’s integrity.
Apart from the reintroduction of the Auction House, NBA 2K25 is making significant modifications to the various gaming options available. A revamped version of the Triple Threat Park from NBA 2K16’s Rivet City Championships MyPark is being added. This area includes multiple courts, each offering distinct game types, and even features your MyPlayer character cheering on your NBA stars from the sidelines. For those who prefer offline play, NBA 2K25 will debut Breakout Mode. Essentially, this combines most of the previous single-player game modes into a board game-like experience to navigate through. As a result, modes like Triple Threat Offline and Clutch Time have been phased out, but they can still be found within Breakout. The objective is to encourage players to explore several game types as they progress through the Breakout board.
In NBA 2K25, they’ve swapped Unlimited for a fresh multiplayer option called Showdown. This mode offers 13-card teams and rewards are given based on your progress through each six-week season. Achieving success in Showdown grants access to the new King of the Court competitive mode, which operates only on Saturdays and offers substantial rewards if you can amass wins. However, be warned that this will be a tough arena for MyTeam players as it promises to be highly competitive. Lastly, NBA 2K25 is revamping Challenges and Agendas, consolidating them into a unified menu for easier viewing of tasks required to earn new rewards. Essentially, they’re modernizing old content while introducing exciting new modes to keep players hooked.
NBA 2K25 launches on September 6th for PlayStation, Xbox, and PC platforms.
