Report: WWE NXT Has "Significant Interest" in AEW's Ricky Starks

As a seasoned gamer who’s witnessed the rise and fall of countless wrestling stars, I must admit that Ricky Starks’s current situation leaves me intrigued. The man once stood tall as AEW Tag Team Champion, then came crashing down like a WWE Superstar’s finisher move.

As Ricky Starks, I’ve mysteriously disappeared from the world of professional wrestling. It’s been a while since you’ve seen me on your screens, last time was back in March when Big Bill and I lost the tag title tournament match. Just a few weeks before that, we were proudly holding the AEW Tag Team Championships and gracing AEW programming regularly.

Ricky Starks Garners “Significant Interest” From WWE NXT

Report: WWE NXT Has "Significant Interest" in AEW's Ricky Starks

Even amidst his absence, the greater wrestling world has its eyes on Pretty Ricky.

According to Fightful Select, there is a lot of enthusiasm within the WWE, particularly NXT, for signing Ricky Starks when his contract expires. Notably, Cody Rhodes and Jade Cargill, who were previously with AEW and are now part of WWE, have praised Starks’s in-ring abilities.

There’s no specific date known yet for when Cody Rhodes’ contract with All Elite Wrestling (AEW) ends. He joined AEW in the summer of 2020, and he’s now completed over four years with the company. It appears that Cody Rhodes and AEW are in a sort of waiting game, as Rhodes has confirmed that he is not injured and wants to reappear on AEW television.

In an interview in May, Starks expressed a desire to be part of either Dynamite or Dynasty, saying “I wish I was on those shows.” However, he acknowledged that at some point, he needs to let go because his work and dedication speak for themselves. He has always given his all, with a consistent 100% effort. Eventually, he understands that certain things are beyond his control. The most significant lesson he’s learned is that not everything is within his grasp, but the aspects that are, he strives to excel at them the hardest.

Earlier this summer, when asked about Starks’ situation, AEW President Tony Khan expressed eagerness to incorporate Starks into future AEE plans.

In June, Khan expressed that Ricky Starks is exceptional and he hopes to bring him back into AEW soon. He’s played a significant role in our success for nearly four years out of the five we’ve been operating. There’s a lot of admiration for him.
