The Batman Part II Writer Teases "Tremendous" Work on DC Sequel

As a seasoned gamer and a die-hard Batman fan who has seen his share of ups and downs in the Caped Crusader’s cinematic journey, I can’t help but feel an electrifying sense of anticipation upon learning that The Batman Part II is finally taking flight. After the masterful debut of Matt Reeves’ vision for Gotham City, it’s a relief to know that the sequel is in safe hands with Reeves and his talented collaborators like Mattson Tomlin.

I can hardly contain my excitement as it’s been over two years since The Batman graced our movie screens, embodying Matt Reeves’ more realistic interpretation of the DC universe. After what felt like an eternity of waiting and production hiccups, it’s official! The Batman Part II is set to hit cinemas in the fall of 2026. And let me tell you, things are shaping up quite impressively. In a recent chat with ScreenRant, co-writer Mattson Tomlin shared that production on the sequel will kick off next year, and working alongside Reeves has been nothing short of amazing so far.

Next year, we’re set to film the sequel, and I must say, the expectations are sky-high! As a fan who’s been fortunate enough to work closely with Matt Reeves over the past five years, I can attest that he stands out from the crowd. His artistic vision often transcends the limitations that can hinder creativity in the film industry, and he’s striving to create something truly meaningful. Being part of this extraordinary journey is nothing short of incredible! I can hardly wait for the movie!

What Is The Batman Sequel About?

As I eagerly wait for “The Batman Part II,” I can’t help but wonder about the intricate details that are yet to unfold. While it’s a given that Robert Pattinson will reprise his role as both Bruce Wayne and the Dark Knight, Batman, and Zoe Kravitz will return to her sinister yet captivating portrayal of Selina Kyle, aka Catwoman, I can’t help but be curious about who else from the original cast might make an appearance.

Essentially, Andy Serkis, the actor who plays Alfred Pennyworth, has recently learned that it’s probable they’ll begin filming the movie early next year. This means we might expect the film a year and a half after that. Matt Reeves is currently putting a lot of effort into the script, and given his exceptional talent as a filmmaker, I believe the script will be outstanding. I thought his work on the first film was fantastic, and I’m eager to work with Robert Pattinson again as Alfred Pennyworth.

Is The Batman Part II in the New DCU?

It is officially established that “The Batman Part II” will function as a DC Elseworlds production, distinct from the upcoming DC Universe of films by James Gunn and Peter Safran and the exclusive TV series on Max.

Matt is currently developing “[The] Batman 2,” which he refers to as a crime saga focusing on Batman, that will also incorporate elements of the “The Penguin” TV series. In a previous conversation about the project, Gunn mentioned this. He explained that it stands independently and he’s putting a lot of effort into it. Recently, Matt presented us with some fantastic and exciting ideas for the project. Our intention is to keep moving forward with these plans.

The Batman Part II will be released exclusively in theaters on October 2, 2026.
