Alien: Romulus Confirms Key Plot Point and Gets Banned From Reddit

As a fan who has been following the Alien franchise since its inception, I must say that the recent revelation about Kay’s baby daddy in Alien: Romulus sent shockwaves through the community. The theories surrounding this aspect of the film were as thrilling as any other plot twist, and to see the director himself confirm it on Reddit was nothing short of exhilarating, even if it landed him a temporary ban!

Since Alien: Romulus debuted in cinemas last week, there has been much debate among audiences about Isabela Merced’s character Kay and who the father of her baby could be. Director Fede Álvarez observed these discussions on a Reddit thread and even joined the conversation himself to clarify one of the theories about the film. However, this action led to his temporary ban by the moderators due to their shock that the filmmaker had participated in the discussion. The moderators later lifted the ban after Álvarez announced the news on Twitter. Alien: Romulus is currently showing in theaters.

WARNING: Spoilers below for Alien: Romulus

In the movie Romulus, viewers discover fairly quickly that Kay is pregnant. When asked who the father is, she vaguely refers to him as an unimportant “creep”. This man appears to have no significant influence on the storyline. As the film progresses, Bjorn (played by Spike Fearn) displays a caring gesture towards Kay, sparking speculation among viewers that he might be the father of her child.

In my personal viewpoint, after watching the movie in IMAX yesterday, I must say it was nothing short of extraordinary! The immersive IMAX experience truly brought the story to life for me. Now, let me share a thought that crossed my mind during the movie – at Bjorn’s final moments before his demise, he and Kay shared an intimate moment that left me questioning Bjorn’s character. When they touched each other in such a tender way, I couldn’t help but wonder if this was a hint suggesting Bjorn as the ‘jerk’ who perhaps impregnated Kay. It seems like my fellow Redditors may share similar thoughts given some of the comments I’ve read so far, but I’m curious to hear more opinions!

A user named “fedalvar” then chimed in to confirm, “Yes he is. Good catch!”

It became clear that some fans thought the person was just posing as the director, but then Alvarez displayed the email proving he had actually been suspended on Twitter.

The filmmaker commented on a screenshot, saying he was banned from the ALIEN subreddit because it seemed like he was attempting to pose as someone else. In other words, his post got him in trouble for pretending to be someone else.

Hey there! Just wanted to share an incident from my gaming world. Someone posted a screenshot from a mod where they’d caught a fake Fedele (Fede for short). Turned out someone reported an imposter, so I swiftly took action and banned the account. But don’t worry, our beloved Fede was promptly reinstated and we had a pleasant chat afterward. He’s such a cool dude!

The intrigue lies in discovering that Bjorn is indeed Kay’s father, as they are cousins. This revelation sparks a multitude of fresh questions. At present, it remains uncertain whether the characters were originally written as cousins and inter-family reproduction was a common theme on this mining colony, or if this particular family connection was established after changes to the project that confirmed their relationship.

Alien: Romulus is in theaters now.
