Tim Curry's First Movie Role in 14 Years Revealed

As a long-time admirer and follower of Tim Curry’s illustrious career, it is nothing short of exhilarating to witness his return to the silver screen after more than a decade! The man who brought us the unforgettable Dr. Frank-N-Furter in “The Rocky Horror Picture Show” and the delightfully sinister Wadsworth from “Clue,” is once again ready to captivate our hearts with his enchanting charm in the upcoming film, “Stream.”

Tim Curry is making his long-awaited comeback to the silver screen with the film “Stream” after over a decade’s absence. Known for his iconic role in “The Rocky Horror Picture Show“, this will be Curry’s first feature film since 2010. The movie “Stream” is scheduled for a limited theatrical release, marking Curry’s return to live-action films following his work in voice acting since then. His last live-action role was in the 2016 TV remake of “The Rocky Horror Picture Show” on FOX. Since suffering a stroke in 2012, Curry has faced challenges with mobility.

Beyond “Rocky Horror,” Curry has graced a variety of genre productions that have become beloved cult favorites, such as “Clue” and “Psych,” as well as “Legend” and the “IT” miniseries. The filmmakers behind “Stream” were thrilled to bring him back for another big-screen appearance.

Michael Leavy, director and producer, expressed his joy and anticipation in a statement (originally reported by Variety). He said, “Keeping this secret and containing our excitement has been tough, especially for such a prolonged period. But now we’re ecstatic! We’re thrilled to announce that Tim is returning to the big screen through our movie, Stream. His charisma is simply unmatched and it always gleams through his work. It’s an honor to have him on board with us. Growing up, I admired Tim immensely, so working with him, particularly on a project close to my heart, is a significant milestone for me. We can hardly wait for the audience to immerse themselves in our movie at theaters and hopefully among a large group of fans enjoying it together! The horror genre thrives best when shared in this way. Stream is here to provide entertainment!”

In recent times, Curry has taken a break from live-action feature films, but he’s kept engaged with his audience by attending conventions and promoting his animated ventures. Last year, he shared insights about the anniversary of the movie Clue, revealing that there was originally a fourth, unseen ending where his character turned out to be the murderer.

As a dedicated enthusiast, I shared my thoughts with Empire magazine: “I chased everyone around the house in the movie,” Curry said. “It just didn’t deliver enough humor or surprise. The ending felt underwhelming. So, I decided to cut it. Three mysteries were enough.” Curry continued, “I’ve encountered genuine Clue fans at conventions, who even dressed up as characters from the film… A sight I’m quite familiar with, having experienced similar devotion towards Rocky Horror for years.”

In the story Stream, as the Keenans attempt to strengthen their family bond, they unknowingly become players in a lethal game. Four psychopathic assassins roam the corridors of their hotel, each vying for the most inventive ways to take a life, and the odds are decidedly against them.

Stream opens Wednesday in select theaters.
