The recent announcement by Ashanti and Nelly about their new bundle of joy, Kareem Kenkaide Haynes, is nothing short of delightful news.

Following the birth of their son Kareem Kenkaide “KK” Haynes in July, the couple kept the joyous event private until August 21st. Now, the musical artist known for “Ride With Me” is opening up about their first month of parenting experiences.
Nelly expressed to TopMob News on August 21st that having children is truly a source of joy, and he finds it incredible to witness Ashanti’s amazing parenting skills.
Immediately following their announcement, Ashanti revealed the profound significance of her son’s name, mentioning that it was in fact Nelly who proposed this name idea.
“Ashanti shared with Entertainment Tonight on August 21st that her father’s name is Kenkaide. As you may know, he only has daughters, and so Nelly suggested it would be cool, and this idea was entirely his.”
The singer known for “Happy” shared on Instagram that she had given birth to her first child, posting an unguarded image of her post-pregnancy figure.
In her August 21 Instagram post, she expressed that this is what postpartum looks like. She’s incredibly proud of her body for delivering her precious little one, saying it multiple times with affection.
Accompanying the caption, the mom happily posted a video featuring herself in Frida Mom’s postpartum underwear and an elegant silk gown that reached the floor. In the footage, she moves the camera across her figure, followed by saying to it, “Four weeks after giving birth—you wouldn’t believe what this body is capable of.”
Before the arrival of their baby, Ashanti shared some insights about her current phase with Nelly – a man who is already father to Chanelle and Cornell Haynes III, and who adopted Shawn and Sydney Thomas, children of his sister Jackie Donahue after her passing in 2005. She mentioned that this was realizing a long-held dream of hers.
She mentioned in her post that she’s eagerly anticipated becoming a mother for quite some time. However, she went on to say, there’s no way to truly be ready for all the aspects of motherhood!
In April, Ashanti and Nelly, who are both 49 years old, made simultaneous announcements: they were engaged and expecting a child, seven months following their confirmation of rekindling their romance from the early 2000s. It was later discovered through public records that the couple had secretly gotten married in December 2023.
Speaking from a heart filled with adoration, I must say, to those who wonder about our likeness, it’s clear as day that my little one has taken after none other than the legendary Nelly, or so it seemed at first. But oh, how times have changed! Now, I can’t help but see myself staring back at me from his face. It’s almost surreal, like looking in a mirror, my twin he’s become.
