The Gentlemen season 2 release date speculation, cast and latest news

As a seasoned cinema devotee who’s witnessed more crime dramas than I can count on one hand, the news of The Gentlemen season 2 has sent a jolt of excitement through my cinematic veins! The original series was a gripping ride that perfectly combined humor, suspense, and intrigue, making it a standout in the genre.

Netflix has confirmed that The Gentlemen season 2 is officially happening.

The news arrives approximately five months following the show’s premiere on the streaming service in March, quickly soaring to the summit of their TV series rankings.

In the vein of Guy Ritchie’s 2020 film titled “The Gentlemen,” this movie centers around character Eddie, portrayed by Theo James, who acquires the family estate upon his father’s demise, unbeknownst to him that it conceals a lucrative marijuana business.

In no time, I find myself entangled within the shady realm of crime and gangs. With my safety and that of my loved ones at stake, I’m left with no choice but to form an alliance with drug lord Susie Glass (Kaya Scodelario). Together, we aim to protect our territory.

In the second installment, there are eight planned episodes, where James and Scodelario will resume their characters Eddie and Susie. However, who else might be joining them and when can fans expect the next season? Keep reading to find out more details.

Filming for The Gentlemen’s second season is scheduled to start in 2025, which suggests that we might expect its release in 2026.

Earlier this month, it was officially announced that there will be a second season of “The Gentlemen,” as Netflix put up a London billboard featuring a large marijuana joint covering the season announcement.

As it burned down, the message “roll on season 2” eventually appeared.

Fans shouldn’t be taken aback by the news of Season 2 renewal, as producer Marc Helwig disclosed that talks about the next installment were initiated earlier in the year.

In an interview with Deadline in April, he mentioned that they had initiated the process… He’s had conversations with some writers, and there have been many discussions with Guy about potential plans for a second season, focusing on specific aspects.

Previously in November, Ritchie shared with Netflix: “The universe of The Gentlemen carries a piece of me. We’re eager to revisit this world, introduce fresh characters and their tales, and I’m thrilled to be working on this with such a gifted group of actors.”

The Gentlemen season 2 cast: Who’s returning?

It’s confirmed that actors Theo James and Kaya Scodelario will reprise their roles as Eddie Horniman and Susie Glass, respectively. Additionally, Daniel Ings is set to return, portraying Eddie’s brother, Freddy.

James had shared on the Netflix Tudum site that his character’s bond with Susie, their partner-in-crime, is complex: “I believe they’ve developed feelings for one another in their unique way, but I don’t think they will ever completely trust each other because they are fundamentally different and come from such disparate realms.”

“There’s a love between them, but ultimately they will never be from the same cloth.”

The other cast members likely to return include:

  • Ray Winstone as Bobby Glass
  • Joely Richardson as Lady Sabrina
  • Vinnie Jones as Geoff Seacombe
  • Giancarlo Esposito as Uncle Stan
  • Chanel Cresswell as Tammy Horniman
  • Michael Vu as Jimmy Chang
  • Jasmine Blackborow as Charly
  • Harry Goodwins as Jack
  • Pearce Quigley as Gospel John

Additional casting is set to be announced at a later date.

The Gentlemen season 2 plot: What could happen?

In the first season’s wrap-up, instead of freeing my family estate from the clutches of the Glass family’s marijuana empire as I had been striving to do, something unexpected unfolded. Contrary to my earlier intentions, I chose to continue down the criminal path and partnered up with Susie Glass (Kaya Scodelario).

Season 2, then, will kick off with Eddie and Susie at the helm of the massive weed empire.

Regarding the upcoming season, James had mentioned to Netflix that “Eddie and Susie have sealed a deal with the devil, marking the start of their treacherous voyage. This sets the stage for James’ descent into the abyss of darkness.”

In the final episode of season 1, Bobby Glass (Ray Winstone) had a conversation with Stanley Johnston in prison. They discussed their future plans which could lead to a risky alliance as they move into season 2.

Previously, Scodelario shared with Netflix that the characters might either join forces and rule together, or Stan would end up being Bobby’s subordinate.

Previously this year, James mentioned the difficulties involved in arranging a second season, expressing it as “a negotiating ordeal for all of us with Guy”.

He added: “But also, I think with a show like this, if you’re going to do more, you need to come up with a really interesting concept for season 2. Because, as much as we enjoyed it and as fun as it was, it needs a narrative drive.”
