As a seasoned gamer with over two decades of combat and co-op gaming under my belt, I can’t help but feel a surge of excitement upon witnessing the gameplay footage for Towerborne. The fast-paced, combo-focused action and the potential for chaos in a cooperative setting is music to this old gamer’s ears.
Following the disclosure of significant modifications in Towerborne’s launch strategy, such as an imminent early access debut, during Xbox’s day 2 Gamescom broadcast, developer Stoic Studio unveiled additional gameplay footage and specifics for the forthcoming cooperative 2.5D action RPG.
In line with expectations, the video presents numerous battle scenes, and Towerborne seems to excel in this aspect. The action is swift and centered around combos. Since it’s a cooperative game, there’s ample opportunity for mayhem too, such as snatching kills from your teammates if you prefer a competitive approach.
The gameplay video demonstrates a level-ending boss battle against the towering Pangojira, a creature resembling a pangolin. This formidable adversary unleashes an array of powerful attacks, such as hurling massive rocks, conjuring smaller enemies that emerge from the earth to attack, and pounding the ground to create shockwaves.
Fresh, unique features are elaborated too, for instance, each boss possesses a break bar below their health. When this is completely drained with damage, it momentarily incapacitates the boss, offering an opportunity to inflict significant damage. Furthermore, landing hits and combos will also charge your weapon meter. Once full, you can utilize special abilities.
Regarding the process of resuscitation, your Umbra companions will automatically revive you when you fall, but keep in mind that this revival opportunity is limited for the entire squad. Once all respawns are used up, fallen players can only be brought back to life by other players, a process that may take time and expose you to potential attacks.
Check out the gameplay footage in the timestamped video below.
As an eager fan, I’m thrilled to share that I’ll get my hands on “Towerborne” first as early access on PC starting September 10! Later down the line, it will make its grand entrance onto Xbox Series X/S. Fast forward to 2025, this captivating game will officially launch in full swing for both platforms, and best of all, it’s going to be free-to-play!
