As a gamer with a deep-rooted love for Marvel comics and movies, I must say that Channing Tatum‘s portrayal of Gambit in Deadpool & Wolverine was nothing short of spectacular. The actor brought to life one of my favorite characters from the ’90s and 2000s, a character who had been on my wishlist for a long time.
In Deadpool & Wolverine, not only did they revive beloved Marvel characters from the ’90s and 2000s, but they also granted an actor a long-cherished dream role – Channing Tatum as Gambit. The crowd erupted with excitement when he debuted onscreen in Deadpool & Wolverine, which was quite remarkable considering Wesley Snipes’ Blade appeared just moments before him. Tatum seized the chance to play Gambit, quickly becoming a fan favorite and potentially paving the way for a more extensive portrayal of the role in future projects.
In a recent chat, Channing Tatum admitted that during the filming of Deadpool and Wolverine, he missed an exciting chance to acquire Gambit’s famous attire.
In the coming week, the thriller movie “Blink Twice“, penned, directed, and produced by actress Zoe Kravitz, will hit the screens with her fiancee, actor Channing Tatum, in the lead role. Recently, the trio – Kravitz, Tatum, and their co-star Naomi Ackie (from “The Rise of Skywalker“) – sat down for an interview with Vanity Fair’s Lie Detector Test segment, which proved to be quite a nerve-wracking experience for Tatum.
At a certain stage, there was a question about Tatum portraying Gambit in ‘Deadpool & Wolverine’, and whether he requested to retain the costume. This is what the actor responded:
In a state of fear, I found it difficult to request anything. Normally, I take the final costume I’m wearing at the end of each film, but on this occasion, I was too timid to do so.
An additional question about Deadpool & Wolverine (all of which Tatum answered truthfully) included the fact that playing Gambit went “beyond” his long-held anticipation for the role. If you don’t know your fandom history, Tatum was attached to the Gambit role back when Fox’s X-Men Universe was still looking to expand into more solo character spinoffs; he hung on to the project from about 2014-2019, when the Fox-Disney Deal ended all hopes that he would get his shot at a Gambit film and/or a spot in the larger X-Men franchise. In that sense, Deadpool & Wolverine really is the second chance that Tatum never thought he’d get – and he’s been nothing but appreciative to the fans, Ryan Reynolds, and the entire team behind the film.
Following the massive box office triumphs of Deadpool and Wolverine, as well as Channing Tatum’s popular Gambit character going viral on social media, there is a strong possibility that the actor could secure a significant role in a future Marvel movie. Discussions about this opportunity are already underway.
