As a movie enthusiast with a penchant for gripping tales of justice and retribution, I must say that Zoë Kravitz’s directorial debut, Blink Twice, has left an indelible mark on me. This film is not for the faint-hearted, but for those who appreciate a well-crafted narrative that delves into the darker corners of society, it’s a must-watch.

As a devoted admirer, I’ve been captivated by the mesmerizing performances of Zoë Kravitz in series like Big Little Lies and High Fidelity, and films such as Kimi and The Batman. Her talent has always set her apart in Hollywood. Yet, what truly left me awestruck was her directorial debut, proving beyond doubt that she’s not just an exceptional actress but a visionary filmmaker as well.
For the first time, she’s directing a movie – the darkly humorous film titled “Blink Twice,” formerly known as “P***y Island.” It’s now gracing UK cinemas following mostly favorable critic reviews and appears poised to be a hit among viewers.
The story revolves around Frida, played by Naomi Ackie, who is a waitress. Alongside her friend Jess, portrayed by Alia Shawkat, she receives an invitation to Slater King’s private island. Slater King, the tech magnate undergoing public rehabilitation after some unspecified indiscretion, is played by Channing Tatum.
Initially, several aspects of life on the island appear unusual. For instance, upon arrival, everyone is asked to surrender their phones, and later, the days become indistinguishable for Frida, Jess, and their fellow visitors – among whom are three other young females.
Initially, Frida seems content to dismiss her worries because they’re enjoying a lavish lifestyle, but it doesn’t take long before an unsettling truth surfaces, forcing her to acknowledge that all is not well.
As a true movie enthusiast, if you’ve watched the flick and could use a refresher on its climactic moments, stick around as I unravel the mysterious twist-ending of Blink Twice!

Blink Twice ending explained: How does Frida get revenge?
On Slater’s island, Frida had started to feel uneasy as if something wasn’t quite normal – but everything escalated when it seemed like Jess had simply disappeared. With her friend missing, Frida could no longer ignore the unusual circumstances.
What’s particularly troubling to Frida is not just the vanishing act of Jess, which is alarming enough, but the perplexing aspect that no one else appears to recall Jess being present there at all.
1. Slater and his friends assert she doesn’t exist, other women on the island say they don’t know about her, and the room where Jess used to stay was reorganized as a storage area.
Initially, it seems like Frida is operating entirely solo, but later on, she locates a companion in Sarah (Adria Arjona). This Sarah uncovers an item with the name ‘Jess’ inscribed on it, which helps trigger her recollections.
It appears that, similar to Frida, she’s discovered numerous injuries on her body which she can’t remember how they occurred, and she’s starting to sense that there’s something peculiar or amiss in the entire situation.
Step by step, the duo starts to put the puzzle together: during Slater’s wild drug sessions, every girl was drugged using a unique island flower that causes memory loss. During these blackout periods, unspeakable sexual assaults have been committed by the men. Importantly, this same flower is also present in the perfume they’ve been given.
Jess had stayed vigilant, mindful of Slater’s scheme, and ultimately met his end because of it.
As a cinephile, I’ve discovered an intriguing fact: consuming the venom of a native snake species triggers vivid memories of traumatic events. Since my encounter with one such snake, I’ve been able to recall harrowing experiences, and now, in collaboration with Sarah, I’ve devised a plan. We propose that the rest of us mix this venom into shots for potential memory-revealing effects.
Thus, the memories resurface for all, leading to the conception of a well-deserved retribution strategy.
Amidst everything, Frida discovers a collection of photos revealing a startling fact: she had previously visited the island without remembering it. This triggers another repressed memory, causing several events to fall into place.
The island’s staff were repeatedly telling Frida “red rabbit” because they wanted to jog her memory – she had sported red rabbit nail art during her previous visit.
In response to their dire predicament becoming apparent, the women swiftly launch an offensive, and before long several men (including Geena Davis’ character, Slater’s assistant) suffer gruesome – yet fulfilling – fates; some were stabbed while others had their heads crushed by a rock.
Although they’ve been advancing steadily, the team still faces challenges, and regrettably, it seems that Slater holds a significant advantage as he confronts Frida, seemingly intending to bring matters to an end decisively.
However, at the moment he was about to attack, it seems like he got bewildered all of a sudden and completely lost track of the situation.
A detailed view of a perfume bottle shows the turn of events: Frida secretly made him experience the same substance he used on other women, by vaping it himself, thus taking charge unexpectedly.
Towards the close of the movie, Kravitz has another surprise up his sleeve. The movie concludes at a high-society event similar to its opening scene, and surprisingly, Slater is not only alive but appears to be maintaining his power – and is even romantically involved with Frida.
It turns out that Frida has been manipulating him through drugs and blackmail, and she’s even leveraged his wealth and status to build her own empire. In this way, she’s exacted her revenge on him.
Blink Twice is now showing in UK cinemas.
