A Simple Favor director Paul Feig gives major update on sequel

As a seasoned film enthusiast with a soft spot for quirky comedies and captivating thrillers, I must admit that the news of Paul Feig returning to A Simple Favour for a sequel has me positively giddy! Having watched his work since the hilarious Bridesmaids, I’ve always been intrigued by his unique ability to create memorable characters and engaging narratives.

For the first time in his career, writer and director Paul Feig is returning to one of his films for a sequel with the upcoming A Simple Favour 2 – and it looks like fans of the original have plenty of cause to be excited about the follow-up.

During the interview, he expressed his genuine enthusiasm, saying, “I’m absolutely thrilled about it!” for the promotion of his latest action-comedy release on Amazon Prime Video, titled Jackpot!

Currently, I’m engrossed in the process of refining my work, and we had a trial run of the initial version last week. To my delight, it received an overwhelming response, reaching great heights. The scores were impressive. In essence, it appears to be effective, which is heartening.

Currently, I’m making some final adjustments, and I must say, I’m genuinely thrilled about it. To put it simply, everyone seems to be eager to return for it.

Feig also shared his reasons for returning to work on the movie, despite typically being hesitant about participating in sequels.

He shared that he adores those characters deeply. Originally, he wished to re-engage with them, and an idea for a story popped up – a destination wedding in Italy. As he pondered over the possibility of bringing this concept to life, it struck him – why not combine these two ideas?

As a devoted cinephile, I’m thrilled to share that Jessica Sharzer, the original screenwriter, seized the opportunity to expand upon the initial narrative. From there, we embarked on a collaborative journey of continuous revisions and innovative tweaks, shaping it into something truly captivating.

After working on films like Bridesmaids, The Heat, Spy, and Last Christmas, Feig has now tried his hand at a sequel. With this new experience under his belt, is there a possibility that he might revisit any of his previous projects?

“He expressed his fondness for creating unique pieces,” he said. “Every return to a project reminds me of slipping into a damp swimsuit, but with ‘Jackpot’, I believe I’d enjoy developing a sequel immensely. The plotline already seems clear to me.”

“I believe this concept has the ability to expand into multiple tales. It could encompass both John [Cena] and Awkwafina’s adventures, as well as new stories, characters, and settings across the globe. In essence, it seems there’s a strong possibility for an action-comedy franchise series.”

As a die-hard movie enthusiast with years of experience under my belt, I can confidently say that I’ve found a couple of intriguing titles for your viewing pleasure! “Jackpot!” is currently streaming on Prime Video, and if you haven’t seen it yet, I highly recommend giving it a go. On the other hand, “A Simple Favour” is now available to rent or buy on various digital platforms. However, I must admit that I am eagerly waiting for an announcement regarding the release date of “A Simple Favour 2”. Until then, these films will certainly keep us entertained!
