Scarlet Witch Fan Theory Could Hint at Surprising MCU Debut

As a dedicated Marvel fan who has been following the saga of Wanda Maximoff since her introduction in “Avengers: Age of Ultron,” I am beyond excited about the possibility of Elizabeth Olsen returning to the MCU. The recent rumor of her potential role in “Vision Quest” has me on the edge of my seat, and I must admit that the idea of her playing Virginia Vision is a twist I never saw coming!

The latest Marvel gossip hints at Elizabeth Olsen potentially rejoining the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU). However, there’s a twist: Will she be playing Wanda Maximoff again in her upcoming role, or could she be portraying another character altogether? According to Deadline, Olsen is being considered for a return in “Vision Quest”. But, a cryptic tweet and some online detective work have sparked rumors suggesting a different role. Alex Perez from My Cosmic Circus tweeted an image of Virginia Vision in response to Deadline’s report, which could indicate a surprise twist that many MCU fans might not anticipate. However, this change could align well with the narrative. It’s a plot twist that may catch many Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) enthusiasts off guard, but it could make perfect sense in the grand scheme of things.

It’s rumored that “Vision Quest” might draw inspiration from a couple of Marvel Comics storylines. One is the “Children’s Crusade,” where characters Billy and Tommy (introduced in WandaVision) search for the Scarlet Witch. Additionally, it could reference Tom King’s “The Vision.” The outstanding performance by Olsen in the Disney+ series has significantly boosted her popularity among Marvel Cinematic Universe fans as a favorite hero. If they were to turn the family sitcom on its head for the conclusion of this Scarlet Witch story arc, it would add thematic depth. At this point, nothing is officially confirmed by Marvel, but the concept certainly sounds intriguing.

In Tom King’s Vision series, the synthetic character, Vision, creates a family. His spouse, Virginia Vision, experiences glitches following a tragic incident and possesses all of her partner’s abilities. Previously, Olsen portrayed a redhead with questionable sanity. Thus, this could offer an engaging twist on that role. In fact, it might be intriguing to reverse the climactic clash from WandaVision, setting up Scarlet Witch versus herself in the ultimate showdown. As we approach Vision Quest, further information is expected to surface.

Tom King’s Vision Run Looms Large Moving Forward

During the broadcast of “WandaVision”, many fans became acquainted with Tom King’s enjoyable stint on “The Vision”. During the run of the Disney+ series, the comic creator appeared on ComicBook’s “Phase Zero” podcast to discuss his take on “WandaVision”. While he acknowledged the nods to his past work, King also highlighted several other comic writers who received recognition in the show as well.

As a gamer, I can’t help but notice the influence of Brian Michael Bendis in this show. Frankly, I feel like he gets more credit than he deserves, while I might be overlooked. When I look closer, I see traces of Steve Englehart and John Byrne as well, particularly in the West Coast Avengers storylines. Vision is definitely an elevated concept here, a nod to Alan Moore’s work perhaps, but it’s also infused with elements from Bendis, Englehart, and Byrne. It’s like they’re blending these ingredients together to create something truly unique.

King often finds himself drawn to comic books and their history, with Marvel producing exceptional works, but DC excelling in a different way, creating dark, influential series like “Watchmen,” “The Dark Knight Returns,” and “New Frontier.” These comics are often referred to as literary superhero stories, as they delve deeper into character development and narrative complexity than typical Marvel comics. While it’s an oversimplification, this is generally true about the two publishers. King aimed to bring that distinctive DC feel to Marvel, and if successful, it could ignite a similar level of enthusiasm in Marvel fans. These influential DC works continue to inspire movies, and their energy is what King hopes to replicate in Marvel.
