As I delve deeper into the lives of these One Tree Hill alumni, I am struck by the sheer diversity and dynamism they have brought to their respective careers post-Hill. Shantel VanSanten, with her chameleonic acting skills, has graced our screens on multiple shows, from The Flash to Shooter. Her journey mirrors a rollercoaster ride, each role adding another layer to her already impressive repertoire.
In my journey as a lifestyle guide, I’ve certainly encountered some bumpy roads and steep inclines, much like Chad Michael Murray did in his personal life. However, with perseverance and determination, we can all reach our own “mountaintops” of success and happiness.
However, upon reaching the loftiest summit where he encountered Sarah Roemer, he decided to stay put and has been contentedly perched ever since.
Over the past two decades or so, I’ve experienced tremendous personal development, a journey I’m sharing as I approach my 43rd birthday on August 24th, when I spoke with Parade magazine in October.
My career stretch dates back to the debut of my six-season stint as Lucas Scott on One Tree Hill in 2003. This period encompasses my brief five-month marriage to my costar, Sophia Bush, which I entered into back in 2005, a time when I was still quite green and inexperienced, as I myself have admitted recently.
After that point, he transformed into a dedicated family man, he mentioned. “Now I have an incredible spouse and three lovely children, and they are my cherished family.”
However, though Buffalo, N.Y., born Timberlake is clearly a world apart from his initial days in Hollywood, it could be argued that his maturation significantly sped up following his encounter with Roemer in 2013 on the set of the Crackle series Chosen.
Two attractive co-stars, who initially gained fame as models and entered show business, rapidly developed feelings for each other. Rumors of their relationship first appeared in August 2014, just weeks before they got married, as later anniversary posts hinted.
On January 20, 2015, Murray disclosed to TopMob News that he and the actress from “Disturbia” were married, and later, his representative verified that they were going to have their first child together.
As a dedicated follower, I might say: “I wear the badge of a romantic, proudly,” says the star from Freaky Friday. “I cherish being a family man and nurturing that bond is essential to me. My life is quiet and simple, yet it’s filled with joy and contentment – qualities I hold dear.”
A few months after Murray and Roemer, the actor had to miss a charity event for his cherished Buffalo Bills due to the arrival of his newborn son.
On May 31, 2015, he tweeted that his favorite event to attend was a tough choice, but they had been bestowed with the greatest gift of all – a son, which he considered as God’s most precious blessing.
He went on saying, “Sarah and I can’t be any happier and we plan to enjoy numerous family outings and spend many days watching the Buffalo Bills and Chargers games!”
The names of their newborn son, as well as their 7-year-old and 10-month-old daughters, have been kept private by the devoted teammates, Murray and Roemer. They haven’t disclosed these names publicly, and they’ve also avoided posting clear images of their family on social media.
The couple often posts pictures of their kids on Instagram, but they usually conceal their children’s faces or take photos where the kids are not directly facing the camera. For instance, images of Mickey and such were suitable for a photo during their Father’s Day trip to Disneyland.
On April 30th, as shared by Roemer, a glimpse of their 9-year-old son was visible among a loving pile of siblings, affectionately known as a “cuddle puddle”.
Neither spouse, however, has qualms about showing off just how much they dig each other.
In his 2022 Mother’s Day post on Instagram, Murray expressed that the world feels more vibrant and radiant since your arrival. You have been sharing this brightness among us, our small family or group.
As a child, I spent most of my life under my dad’s care, but it wasn’t until the birth of our son that I truly grasped the significance of a mother’s role in our lives. Since then, I’ve been amazed at how effortlessly and selflessly you’ve supported us all. Your love illuminates our world. Our children are acutely aware of their good fortune to have you as their mom. I adore you deeply.
Wishing Murray a happy ninth anniversary last September, Roemer called him her “favorite human.”
Captioning a secretly taken photo of them both napping during their cross-country journey, she expressed, “I adore the process of growth, discovery, multitasking, and sharing love in this stunning life with you. I’m overjoyed that we can experience all this together.”
Over the last two decades, not only Murray has seen significant growth, but it is also him who has been under a brighter, more prominent lens throughout this period.
In simpler terms, he expressed his gratitude for finding tranquility, which hadn’t been present earlier. He admitted that he often focused on the future rather than appreciating and enjoying the current moment.
Even before, Murray considered himself a romantic, but after marriage and parenthood, his understanding of romance has undergone substantial change.
In simpler terms, the actor conveyed that when he was younger, romance seemed more like an abstract concept to him. However, now he believes that true romance lies in the small gestures that one might not initially consider romantic. For instance, even after working for 14 hours and feeling exhausted, if he finds his wife isn’t feeling well or seems run down from taking care of the kids all day, instead of immediately wanting to rest, he would step up and help her out.
Wait, reader, it gets even better.
He often steps in and handles tasks such as washing the dishes, putting the children to bed, and reassuring them that everything is okay while he takes over. This action feels romantic to him now, in a unique manner, contrasting with how it might have seemed when he was, for instance, 20 years old.
Um, we’re not swooning, you’re swooning.
In an interview with Numéro in May, Murray acknowledged that becoming a father influences the types of roles he considers for his professional projects.
He joked about not wanting his children to attend high school with his photo plastered on their lockers, given that he is their father. He finds it unfair for them and has enjoyed taking the responsibility of making decisions regarding this matter.
Now that he has a job secured, simply commuting to work feels more motivating for Murray these days, as he’s aware he’s not working alone but also has a home audience cheering him on.
He expressed that each day, waking up and heading to work brings him a unique sense of gratitude, which he strives to pass on to his children. When they observe him leaving for work, he tells them, “Look, it’s my turn to go to work today,” and endeavors to make them understand that this is a valuable gift he receives.
And Murray has made sure that his children do actually get to see him leave for the set.
Roemer always travels with his family, so they accompanied him to Nova Scotia where he was filming the TV show Sullivan’s Crossing. As he put it to Parade magazine, “We essentially live out of a suitcase.”
Initially, my son took up football, while my daughter enrolled in a dance class. Eventually, they both seemed to express a shared desire, something like, “Why don’t we give school a try?” he explained, describing how swiftly they adapted. Since we had been homeschooling for so long, it felt natural when we said, “Alright, fantastic!” and immersed ourselves in this community. We’ve grown to love it here.
Moreover, what truly matters is not just demonstrating to his children the inspiring influence of work, but also having the privilege to return home to them – and Roemer – once the day’s work is complete.
In a conversation with Numéro, Murray shared, “Upon my arrival home, I exchange greetings, share affectionate gestures like hugs and kisses, before settling down, engaging in play or watching something together, putting them to bed, and then resuming work. This pattern repeats for all aspects of our life.”
Fundamentally, he strongly opposes separating from the group, not even for a brief period, and prefers this arrangement.
He expressed that there is nothing he would prefer over what he has, regardless of the level of success; it holds no comparison.
In addition, he had already managed to win over his primary audience group: One day after work, Murray came home to discover Roemer and his 7-year-old daughter enchanted by him captivating Hilary Duff in the movie “A Cinderella Story” from 2004.
He recounted to TopMob News in May a memorable instance when he asked, “What are you tuned into?” and instantly recognized her fondness for it.
But while a cinematic fairy tale is good for the occasional rewatch, what Murray and Roemer have built is the kind of romance that sustains a couple year in and year out.
“Embrace love fully and unreservedly,” he said, extending this wisdom from his own long-lasting partnership. “My wife is standing beside me, and she is my everything. She is my strength.”
As a father, he shared with TopMob News in December that he has learned much about self-discovery, selflessness, and unconditional love. He described this phase as the most remarkable chapter of his life thus far.
As a devoted admirer, I can’t help but seize this unique opportunity to trace the paths of the captivating cast from “One Tree Hill” and discover where life has taken them since their memorable days on set. After all, who wouldn’t want to catch up with these beloved characters and see what they’ve been up to?
After the final episode of OTH aired in 2012, Mark Lafferty has been consistently active in television and film. He’s been seen on shows like Crisis and Underground, and he even directed episodes for The Royals produced by TopMob. While working on The Royals, he had the pleasure of meeting actress Alexandra Park. They announced their engagement in September 2020 and got married in May 2022.
In a different wording, the actor who co-starred with Lafferty on One Tree Hill, Stephen Colletti, both created and featured in the 2021 Hulu comedy series titled Everyone Is Doing Great.
After completing six seasons of “One Tree Hill,” Burton moved on to appear in various TV movies and guest-starred on shows like “Castle,” “Grey’s Anatomy,” “Hostages,” “Forever,” and “Lethal Weapon.” She also had a recurring role in USA’s “White Collar.” In 2009, Burton began dating Jeffrey Dean Morgan, known for his roles in “The Walking Dead” and “Grey’s Anatomy.” They tied the knot in 2014 and have two children together. Currently, she portrays the character of Negan’s wife on “The Walking Dead” season 10.
2018 saw me starring in a near-One Tree Hill reunion film titled The Christmas Contract. I’ve managed to maintain friendships with some of my fellow OTH cast members, and together we took on the Cape Fearless Challenge that same year. This initiative was aimed at helping Wilmington, North Carolina, our show’s home, recover from Hurricane Florence.
Following her stint on the brief-running sitcom “Partners”, Bush entered the universe of NBC’s “One Chicago” series, portraying Erin Lindsay. She was a main character on “Chicago P.D.”, but also made guest appearances on “Chicago Fire”, “Chicago Med”, “Chicago Justice”, and “Law & Order: SVU”. Bush departed from “Chicago P.D.” in 2017. Later, she lent her voice to a character in “The Incredibles 2”. In the year 2020, she took on the lead role in the series “Love, Victor”.
In her personal life, Bush is happily in love with with girlfriened and soccer star Ashlyn Harris.
Murray has had a diverse acting journey post his departure from “One Tree Hill” after season six. He featured in both “A Madea Christmas” and the critically-acclaimed “Fruitvale Station”, and took up roles on TV shows such as “Chosen”, “Texas Rising”, and “Sun Records”. In “Scream Queens”, he played the brother of Chad Radwell, and had a starring role in the popular but short-lived “Agent Carter” on ABC. In 2018, he headlined the Hallmark movie “Road to Christmas”, and in 2019, he made an appearance on “Riverdale”.
Following a brief marriage and divorce with co-star Sophia Bush, and a seven-year engagement to Kenzie Dalton, Murray tied the knot with his costar Sarah Roemer in 2015. They have a son born that year and a daughter born in 2017. In August 2023, they expanded their family with the arrival of their third child, a baby girl.
Presently, the multitalented individual, who is both an actress and a musician, is slated to feature in the “Suits” spinoff titled “Second City”. Notably, since the conclusion of “One Tree Hill” in 2012, she has also graced several TV movies and made appearances on shows like “Grey’s Anatomy”, “Colony”, “American Gothic”, “CSI”, and “Dexter”.
In 2012, Lenz divorced her husband Michael Galeoti, and since then, she and their child (born in 2011) have resided in Los Angeles. Additionally, Lenz has pledged participation in the Cape Fearless Challenge, an initiative aiming to support Wilmington, North Carolina.
Farewell to Dan Scott, who has moved on from his role in that show. Since then, Johanssson has been busy with projects like Bones, Mad Men, Once Upon a Time, CSI, and Beauty and the Beast, both on TV and movies. Currently, he’s starring on Syfy’s Van Helsing, returning for its third season in October.
Following his departure from the character Mouth in 2012, Norris took on the task of reprising another famous role – Minkus from “Boy Meets World”. He made numerous appearances in this series, even bringing his own teenage son, who bore a striking resemblance to the original character. Additionally, Norris appeared in the movie “Gone Girl” and was featured in two episodes of “The Walking Dead” in 2017.
Tanner is set to appear in the movie titled “The Christmas Contract” as well! Since his departure from “OTH (One Tree Hill)“, he has taken on roles in shows like “Get Shorty“, “Black Jesus“, “Rizzoli & Isles“, “The Carmichael Show“, and “Rosewood“. You’ll often find him engaging with his former co-stars on Twitter too.
Following the abrupt demise of his character at Dan’s hands in season three, Sheffer made brief appearances in subsequent episodes. However, he also landed roles on shows such as Psych, Criminal Minds, CSI, and Major Crimes. Notably, it has been announced that Sheffer, who had previously gained fame as a daytime television and film actor prior to portraying Keith, will soon star in a horror movie titled Widow’s Point.
Since his departure from One Tree Hill in its finale, Austin Nichols has made significant strides in his acting career. He starred as Spencer on The Walking Dead, followed by Sam on Bates Motel. Additionally, he held roles on Ray Donovan and The Mob Doctor. However, who could forget his 2001 role in the beloved Olsen Twins’ movie, Holiday in the Sun! Nowadays, he is fully committed to conserving marine life.
Prior to tying the knot with the enchanting Jensen Ackles, who you might recognize from his spellbinding role on Supernatural, I was simply Danneel Harris. Yet, my journey has led me to grace a few episodes of that very series, including the highly anticipated season 14 premiere. Additionally, I’m thrilled to share that I’ll be part of the One Tree Hill reunion movie, The Christmas Contract, which is truly a dream come true!
In the year 2009, Danneel departed from “One Tree Hill”. That very same year, she became engaged to Jensen. Their wedding took place in 2010, and they are now proud parents of three kids, with twins arriving in 2016.
Since her departure from One Tree Hill, Woods hasn’t had many acting roles, but she made appearances in two episodes of The Goldbergs, portraying the mother of her real-life daughter, Natalie Alyn Lind. Interestingly, all three of Woods’ daughters are actresses. Emily Alyn Lind starred as young Emily on Revenge, and Alyvia Alyn Lind has been a regular on The Young and the Restless since 2011, and she even played a young Dolly Parton in two television movies.
Since “One Tree Hill,” Lucas’ mother has had a relatively limited workload. She’s been featured in various TV movies and made appearances on shows such as Numb3rs and Drop Dead Diva. Additionally, she was cast as Donna Hayward in “Twin Peaks: The Missing Pieces,” replacing Lara Flynn Boyle for the prequel, “Fire Walk With Me.” She now resides with her spouse and two children in Texas.
Coach Whitey is virtually always busy at work. Lately, Corbin has been seen on Netflix’s “The Ranch,” with numerous films currently in post-production. Additionally, he made an appearance on Modern Family as a family member of Cam’s, and he’s also inducted into the Texas Cowboy Hall of Fame. Now, he proudly holds the title of great grandfather!
Colletti made his return to the show during its fourth season, about two years after his previous stint on Laguna Beach. He went on to feature in several episodes of Hit the Floor. In 2018, he was cast in the Lifetime movie titled Hometown Christmas. More recently, in 2021, Colletti teamed up with his former OTH colleague James Lafferty for a Hulu comedy series called Everyone Is Doing Great.
Currently, at age 17, Jamie isn’t seen acting too often following the conclusion of “One Tree Hill”. However, it seems he maintains a relationship and continues to participate in fan events alongside his former “One Tree Hill” co-stars.
Shantel VanSanten made her appearance on the show during its seventh season and exited with her character having a blissful married life. Following this, she featured in the brief-lived series titled “The Messengers” and left an impact as Barry Allen’s love interest on “The Flash”. More recently, she was seen starring in USA’s “Shooter”. Notably, VanSanten has teamed up with her previous co-stars for the Cape Fearless Challenge.
Ever since I graced the screens of One Tree Hill during its fifth and sixth seasons, it seems like I’m popping up everywhere! I’ve had pivotal roles on shows like The Vampire Diaries, Army Wives, Pretty Little Liars, Chicago PD, and now I’m shining as a leading lady on Chicago Med. And here’s something exciting for fellow fans – rumor has it that I’m dating none other than the talented Jesse Lee Soffer from Chicago PD! Isn’t it thrilling?
In the TV series The Christmas Contract, the character portrayed by Buckley became a significant figure starting from season seven. He continued with the show until it concluded. Following this, he appeared in the short-lived series 666 Park Avenue, and later starred as Major Lilywhite in iZombie on The CW. Now, iZombie is preparing for its fifth and final season. Buckley tied the knot with actress Jenny Wade in May 2018.
The performer made frequent appearances on the series during seasons two to four, later rejoining as a main cast member in season nine. He subsequently headlined CBS’ Extant and portrayed Elvis Presley in the film “Walk the Line”. Hilton continues his live performances and is scheduled to appear for a musical number in “The Christmas Contract”.
Kramer started appearing on the show in 2009, but eventually reduced her acting roles to concentrate more on her burgeoning country music career. She finished fourth in “Dancing with the Stars” competition in 2016, and she is married to NFL player Mike Caussin from the Washington Red Skins. In July of 2018, she revealed that they were expecting their second child.
