As a die-hard fan of action-packed buddy cop movies, I couldn’t be more thrilled about the upcoming film “The Wrecking Crew” starring Jason Momoa and Dave Bautista! The duo has always been a dynamic pair, and their chemistry on screen is electrifying. Adding Temuera Morrison, Jacob Batalon, Frankie Adams, Miyavi, Stephen Root, and Claes Bang to the mix only makes this movie more tantalizing.

Previously, Jason Momoa and Dave Bautista teamed up in the series See and film Dune, and they’ve expressed their desire to create a buddy cop movie reminiscent of Lethal Weapon. In 2021, Momoa announced on The Late Late Show that they were planning this project. Now, the moment has arrived! Titled The Wrecking Crew, the film is being developed by Amazon MGM Studios and director Angel Manuel Soto of Blue Beetle fame, with Momoa and Bautista attached as stars. This week, it was announced that additional high-profile actors have joined the cast according to The Hollywood Reporter.

Besides Momoa and Bautista, the cast for “The Wrecking Crew” has expanded to include Temuera Morrison from “The Book of Boba Fett,” Jacob Batalon known for “Spider-Man: No Way Home,” as well as Frankie Adams from “The Expanse,” Miyavi who appeared in “Kong: Skull Island,” Stephen Root, famous for “Barry,” and Claes Bang recognized from “The Northman.” The script was penned by Jonathan Tropper, the writer of “The Adam Project.” Production for this film is set to commence in New Zealand in October.

The movie centers around two half-brothers: one is a freewheeling police officer (Momoa) and the other is a meticulous Navy SEAL (Bautista). Having been estranged for nearly 2 decades, they find themselves compelled to join forces to expose the truth behind their father’s assassination in Hawaii.

The report states that Morrison will portray the role of Hawaii’s governor, whereas Batalon is depicted as a shrewd, profane private investigator who was acquainted with the brothers’ late father.

When Will Blue Beetle Return to the DCU?

Last year, on the “Inside of You with Michael Rosenbaum” podcast, DC Studios chief James Gunn referred to Jaime Reyes as the inaugural hero in the freshly minted DC Universe, hinting that actor Xolo Maridueña will return to his role in upcoming projects.

“Gunn confirmed that Blue Beetle was the initial character from the DC Universe, and Superman was the first film in the DC Universe series.”

During a conversation on the site egmr.ru, Soto discussed the news that Maridue?a is set to reprise his role as Blue Beetle.

Soto clarified, “It’s comforting to realize that Xolo playing Blue Beetle isn’t just about the character itself, but Xolo embodying Blue Beetle. This implies that the information we have gathered about his past and family is intrinsic to Jaime Reyes’ persona. It’s a heartening sight because it signifies trust in what we created, the influence it had, and how it was portrayed. Essentially, no matter where they take Blue Beetle in the larger DC Universe, the roots of Jaime Reyes can always be traced back to Blue Beetle.”
