As a devoted fan of Coronation Street, I must admit that Will Mellor’s portrayal of Harvey Gaskell has been nothing short of captivating. His ability to breathe life into such a complex and intriguing character is truly commendable. Although it’s sad to see him leave the cobbles, I respect his decision to not overstay his welcome. After all, too much of a good thing can sometimes spoil the broth!
Actor Will Mellor has made it clear that he will not reprise his role as the character Harvey Gaskell on the soap opera Coronation Street, after his recent appearance as the show’s antagonist.
Most recently, the actor from Mr. Bates and The Post Office series has been seen on ITV soap operas, portraying a jailed drug lord from January to March of this year. This role comes after his earlier appearances in 2021 and 2022.
Despite asserting that he truly relished portraying Harvey, Mellor mentioned to The Mirror that he’s not likely to reappear on the cobbles anytime in the near future.
“I don’t like to overdo things,” he explained.
Mellor mentioned that he initially thought his return to Corrie in 2021 would be a single appearance, but the enticing storyline for the character’s comeback in 2022 piqued his interest enough to take on the role again.
Last October, I had the chilling experience of watching as Harvey took the life of Natasha Blakeman, a role brilliantly portrayed by Rachel Leskovac, due to a tragic case of mistaken identity. A year later, her son Sam Blakeman, played by Jude Riordan, paid a visit to the prison where Harvey now resides, seeking justice for his mother’s untimely demise.
As a writer with several years of experience under my belt, I have come to appreciate the power of well-crafted storylines that delve deep into a character’s past and motivations. In this instance, bringing back a beloved character for a storyline revolving around his complex relationship with his younger half-brother seems like an excellent decision. The intrigue surrounding the questions about why Harvey killed their mother and what led to his peculiar behavior promises to captivate audiences, adding depth to both characters and keeping us on the edge of our seats.
I found that quite intriguing. It was almost as if a hardened man was softened by a young boy, causing him to introspect.
“This young character has intrigued me in certain episodes, but I believe I’ve explored it enough and risk over-analyzing if I continue. Continual examination may dilute the character and plot development, which I aim to avoid. At times, less is more, and I prefer to let it rest as it stands.”
