As a long-time fan of Kevin Costner’s work, it’s been quite a rollercoaster ride watching the progress of “Horizon: An American Saga“. The man has always had a knack for bringing epic stories to life on the silver screen, and this project seemed no exception. However, the underwhelming box office performance of Chapter 1 was certainly a surprise, especially given Costner’s track record.
Title One of “Horizon: An American Saga” hit theaters in June, marking the beginning of a four-part series directed by and starring Kevin Costner. Regrettably, the initial installment struggled at the box office, amassing just $34 million. This disappointing performance led to the postponement of the release date for “Chapter 2.” In contrast, production for “Chapter 3” commenced in June. The first film has garnered mixed reviews and currently holds a 49% critics score and 70% audience score on Rotten Tomatoes. Nevertheless, Costner remains committed to the project and has recently provided an update regarding “Chapter 3.”
Kevin Costner shared with TODAY, “I adore the process of this project. It’s been my most challenging endeavor yet, but I have an affection for this film. The sequel holds a special place for me – and the third installment is even more grueling than the first two, while the fourth one concludes the tale. I made a personal vow to see it through, to preserve it, and to share these epic narratives with audiences. I hope that viewers will grow fond of these characters as I have.”
Often, the creations I strive to bring to life don’t instantly connect with others at first glance. However, once they’re complete, people start to grasp their essence and, in many cases, claim them as their own: “This movie is mine! These characters are my favorites! I never knew where the story was heading. It’s wonderful to be pleasantly surprised.” Fortunately, I’ve already filmed a portion of the third installment, and I hope to shoot them consecutively next spring.
