New PS2 Release on PS5 Comes With a Major Downside

As a seasoned gamer with over two decades under my belt, I can attest to the thrill of trophy hunting being a cherished part of my gaming journey. The latest re-release of the TimeSplitters franchise on modern PlayStations has me both elated and perplexed. On one hand, it’s a nostalgic trip down memory lane to relive these iconic games, but on the other, the absence of trophy support is a bitter pill to swallow.

Recently, Sony has brought back the PlayStation 2 classics, TimeSplitters, TimeSplitters 2, and TimeSplitters: Future Perfect on PS5 and PS4. This move has been eagerly awaited by fans for years. However, it’s important to note that these re-releases are lacking one significant feature at the moment.

Unlike most PS2 games ported to PS5 and PS4 recently, TimeSplitters, TimeSplitters 2, and TimeSplitters: Future Perfect do not include trophy support, which is a feature commonly found in other “PlayStation Classics” but is still relatively uncommon among such releases. For example, games like Summoner, Sly Cooper and the Thievius Raccoonus, and Tomb Raider Legend – all released this summer – do have trophies. However, Deep Silver has yet to provide an explanation for why these particular TimeSplitters titles lack trophy support. Yet, they’ve hinted that this situation is likely to change in the near future.

In a statement through Push Square, a representative from Deep Silver mentioned that they’re thinking about adding trophies for all TimeSplitters games and expect them to be included in an upcoming update. The specific release date for these updates across the three titles hasn’t been disclosed yet, but the prospect of their arrival is exciting news. However, if trophies aren’t immediately available upon the game’s return, it might slightly disappoint avid trophy hunters.

Are you okay with the current lack of trophy support for the games, TimeSplitters, TimeSplitters 2, and TimeSplitters: Future Perfect? And would this absence of trophies prevent you from purchasing these games until they are added?
