As a gamer who has spent countless hours immersed in the world of professional wrestling, the news of Sid Eudy’s passing leaves me deeply saddened. I remember cheering for him during his iconic matches at WrestleMania and marveling at his strength and agility. His legacy as a multiple-time champion in both WWF and WCW is undeniable, and he will be sorely missed by fans like myself.
The wrestling world has lost another legend. Former WWF star Sid Eudy, best known as Sycho Sid, has passed away at 63 years old after a battle with cancer. Sid is championed for his work in the World Wrestling Federation throughout the 1990s, a run that had numerous peaks including WrestleMania main events in both 1992 against Hulk Hogan and 1997 against The Undertaker. Sid captured the WWF Championship on two occasions during his tenure in the company and added accolades like the WCW World Heavyweight Championship (2) and WCW United States Championship when he competed for World Championship Wrestling.
Sid’s son, Gunnar Eudy, confirmed the news of his father’s passing on Facebook.
“With a heavy heart, I have to inform you all that my dad, Sid Eudy, has sadly passed away following his long fight against cancer. He was an incredibly strong, kind, and loving person, and we’ll miss him dearly,” Gunnar posted. “We value your thoughts and prayers as we navigate through our grief. Information about the memorial service will be provided shortly. Thank you for your compassion during this difficult time.”
Under different aliases like Sid Justice and Sid Vicious, Sycho Sid also gained prominence. He is among a select group of wrestlers who held top prizes in both WWF and WCW multiple times, a feat that places him alongside legends such as Ric Flair, Hulk Hogan, “Macho Man” Randy Savage, Big Show, and Bret “The Hitman” Hart.
Initially, Sid had to retire in 2001 due to a persistent leg injury that demanded almost daily rehabilitation. Medical experts predicted he would never run again, but against all odds, Sid made a full recovery and came back to wrestling in 2004. He occasionally competed on the independent circuit during the 2000s before joining WWE once more in summer 2012. As the build-up to Raw 1000, Sid was among the numerous legends who faced Heath Slater on previous episodes of WWE Monday Night Raw. He swiftly defeated Slater and reappeared on the actual Raw 1000 a few weeks later. His final match took place in August 2017, where he triumphed over Paul Rosenberg at a Great North Wrestling event in Ottawa.
Despite not appearing on TV for several years, Sid continued to follow the WWE’s offerings. His last tweets were posted during live airings of WWE Monday Night Raw and WWE SmackDown, in which he expressed appreciation for stars JD McDonagh and Carmelo Hayes.
Sid is survived by his wife, Sabrina Paige, and his two sons, Frank and Gunnar.
