One Ted Lasso Star May Not to Return for Season 4

As a dedicated Ted Lasso fan with years of binge-watching under my belt, I must say I’m thrilled at the prospect of another season. The news that Hannah Waddingham, Brett Goldstein, and Jeremy Swift have their contracts picked up is like a sweet apple tart to my eyes. But, the absence of Jamie Tartt (Phil Dunster) might feel like an AFC Richmond loss on the field – not ideal but manageable.

Over the weekend, I got some fantastic and unexpected news as a devoted Ted Lasso fan – it turns out that three main cast members have had their contracts extended for another season! Given the series seemed to wrap up last year, there’s been a lot of speculation about whether it would continue, perhaps exploring a fresh narrative. Now that Hannah Waddingham, Brett Goldstein, and Jeremy Swift are all set for the next chapter of the show, we can only wait and see if Apple TV+ and Warner Bros. Television decide to reunite this talented team and carry on with the story.

The initial findings showed that the three chosen performers were all members of the British Equity acting union, distinct from the American SAG-AFTRA. This explains why stars such as Jason Sudeikis, Brendan Hunt, and Juno Temple weren’t initially included in the first wave. Moreover, Phil Dunster, who played beloved character Jamie Tartt, was also absent, suggesting he might not take part in season 4 of Ted Lasso, if it gets renewed.

As reported by Matthew Belloni from Puck News, actor Brendan Hunt (also known as Ted Lasso’s Dunster) won’t be coming back as a main cast member for now due to his busy schedule with other series like Surface and The Devil’s Hour. However, there is still a possibility that we might see him in guest or recurring roles, but it appears that a permanent return isn’t likely at the moment.

A little TED LASSO news: Phil Dunster, who plays Jamie Tartt, is not expected to return for Season 4. He’s got conflicts with other shows. Discussing today on The Town, sign up here!…

It remains uncertain how a fourth season of Ted Lasso might shape up, given that the third season seemed to conclude Sudeikis’ character arc and send Ted back to England. If the show continues with Ted in America and follows the rest of Richmond AFC through another football season, it would be particularly challenging to watch Jamie depart.

It’s encouraging to see Goldstein and Waddingham coming back, considering their significant roles in the narrative and their impressive track records during award seasons. Both have previously won Emmys for their performances in Ted Lasso, with Waddingham’s Rebecca being the club owner and Goldstein’s Roy Kent stepping into the role of team manager after Ted left, at the end of Season 3.

Nothing is official yet, but the new installment of Ted Lasso could start filming early next year.
