Larry Birkhead posted an uncommon picture of his child, who he co-parented with the late Anna Nicole Smith, as they started a fun-filled, cosplay-themed weekend at Power Morphicon in Pasadena, California.
On August 26th, Larry shared multiple pictures on Instagram featuring a 17-year-old girl, captioned: “Dannielynn had the chance to interact with some of her beloved Japanese TV drama actors.”
Initially designed as a gathering spot to honor the Power Rangers franchise, rooted in its Japanese origin Super Sentai, this convention has grown over time to welcome participants from various Tokusatsu shows. “Tokusatsu” refers to live-action films or series that incorporate extensive special effects in their production.
Dannielynn enthusiastically participated, dressing up as three beloved characters from the Kamen Rider series: Hino Eiji, Ankh, and a unique version of Eiji taken over by Ankh from the 10th anniversary special. Larry commented on her detailed costume which included Ankh’s (Greeed) bird-like hand and hair adorned with feathers.
This marks the initial gathering and early festivities leading up to Dannielynn’s impending eighteenth birthday bash on September 7th, as Larry mentioned. Essentially, we’re starting the clock now, with Japan being the next destination on our list.
Previously, Dannielynn expressed her affection for Japanese culture during an interview with TopMob News at the Kentucky Derby in May. She revealed that she intends to study both Forensic Science and Japanese Studies as dual majors when she enters college.
She shared that her affection for forensics has been present since childhood, often immersing herself in shows like “Dateline”. As she grew older, her interests expanded to include Japan, its culture, and language. This led her to think, “What a fantastic idea! I can combine my passions!”
Honestly, I can’t contain my excitement as I recall the moment Larry disclosed on Instagram that Dannielynn’s Derby outfit this year was inspired by none other than his beloved character, Hino Eiji from Kamen Rider OOO, specifically the TaJaDor combination. The scarlet Badgley Mischka dress with ruffled sleeves, a belted gown, and a matching orchid Jane-Rose Zupetz fascinator were a stunning homage to the character’s spirit. I still get goosebumps thinking about it!
As I humorously put it, she playfully tasked me with writing that line since the character shared the same broad shoulders with the dress design she stumbled upon. After all, every trick in the book helps when it comes to crafting a story, especially during these cherished weekends filled with customs and traditions, as we bid farewell to this one.
Attending the Kentucky Derby annually is a unique and meaningful event for them, not just because they get to spend quality time together, but also as it was the location where they first met Anna Nicole, who tragically passed away 17 years ago at age 39 following an overdose. It holds a special significance in their memory of her.
But interestingly enough, the father-daughter tradition started as an accident.
Larry told TopMob, “Last year, the babysitter couldn’t make it, so I took her myself instead. As she started to move around more, we began to roll her on the carpet. Eventually, this turned into an annual tradition.”
The 51-year-old continued, “I brought her back here for a reason, because it was something that was special. And it’s become a tradition for us out of me meeting her mom here.”
