Orphan Black: Echoes Season 2 Gets New Update From Showrunner

As a die-hard fan of the original “Orphan Black” series, I must say that the spinoff, “Echoes,” has left me both thrilled and anxious. The Season 1 finale was a rollercoaster ride of emotions, and while the lack of a renewal announcement has some fans on edge, I remain optimistic. After all, showrunner Anna Fishko’s recent confirmation that conversations about more episodes are still ongoing gives us hope.

Last Sunday marked the end of Season 1 for the exciting spinoff series, “Orphan Black: Echoes,” a follow-up to the critically acclaimed and Emmy-winning show, “Orphan Black.” As I write this, it’s uncertain whether the series will return for a second season, causing concern among fans following the dramatic events in the Season 1 finale. However, there is optimism as series showrunner Anna Fishko has stated in an interview with TVLine that the show has not been cancelled and discussions about additional episodes are still in progress.

According to Fishko, there’s strong anticipation for another season. It’s something that’s under discussion with AMC, so it could very well happen.

What Is Orphan Black: Echoes About?

As a devoted fan, I’d like to share that Orphan Black: Echoes takes me on an exciting voyage alongside a band of intriguing women, as they intertwine their lives and unveil a gripping narrative filled with the enigma of self-discovery and a heart-wrenching tale of love and deceit. I’m thrilled to join Ritter in her portrayal of Lucy, a woman whose extraordinary past is yet to be revealed, as she searches for her identity and belonging in this world.

In the role of showrunner and writer for Orphan Black: Echoes, Fishko takes center stage, with John Fawcett, a co-creator of the series, returning as an executive producer and director. Joining them in the cast are Keeley Hawes, Amanda Fix, Rya Kihlstedt, and Avon Jogia.

Why Is Tatiana Maslany Not in Orphan Black: Echoes?

In that same interview, Fishko mentioned that initial plans called for Tatiana Maslany, known for her role as a Leda clone on Orphan Black, to appear in Echoes’ first season by reprising her character. However, due to scheduling issues stemming from Maslany’s involvement with AMC’s canceled adaptation of Invitation to a Bonfire, this cameo didn’t happen. At the moment, it’s uncertain which clone Maslany would have played.

Indeed, Fishko disclosed that they had extensively discussed the topic, but scheduling conflicts arose. Regrettably, her filming schedule coincided with ours, and despite our best efforts, we couldn’t coordinate things to fit.

Fishko mentioned that they’d be thrilled if Tatiana could return. If given the chance to bring one of the original sister clones back, it would add an exciting twist and they’d embrace it. So, if scheduling allows in a possible second season, the circumstances might just align for her comeback. That would certainly be fantastic!

The first season of Orphan Black: Echoes is available to stream exclusively on AMC+.
