Upcoming Windows 11 update will let you silence another type of notification

What you need to know

  • Microsoft shipped Windows 11 Build 22635.4082 to Insiders in the Beta Channel recently.
  • The update adds the ability to turn off suggestions for disabling notifications from certain apps.
  • Updating to the latest Insider build also moves the media controls on the lock screen to the lower bottom center of your screen when media is playing.

As a tech enthusiast with years of Windows usage under my belt, I must say that the recent Windows 11 Build 22635.4082 update seems to be a step in the right direction for Microsoft. While it’s amusing that we now have an option to hide notifications about disabling notifications, it’s a welcome addition for those who want control over their app notifications.

Participants within the Beta Channel of Windows Insider Program have a new update to install, which is Windows 11 Build 22635.4082. This update introduces some modifications in how the operating system functions. For the convenience of Insiders, those enrolled in the Beta Channel are now divided into two groups. They can opt to be among the first to receive new features as they’re gradually rolled out or decide to wait a bit longer while these features undergo further refinement before being delivered.

As a tech-savvy individual, I’m thrilled about the new feature in version 22635.4082! Now, you can tailor your experience by turning off suggestions to stop notifications from specific apps. To exercise this control, simply look for the “…” icon when presented with a notification. Clicking on it will give you the option to silence that app’s alerts. Alternatively, you can manage app notifications via the Settings app as well. Enjoy personalizing your device to suit your needs!

It’s somewhat ironic that there’s now an option to conceal a notification whose purpose is to conceal other notifications. However, if you wish your apps to display notifications, encountering a recommendation to disable notifications might feel slightly annoying.

With this new build, Microsoft has shifted the location of media control buttons on the lock screen. If a media is playing, these controls will now be visible at the bottom-center of the lock screen.

Microsoft is improving the personalization options on the Windows 11 lock screen by fine-tuning the user experience. Recently, they introduced a brand-new “Weather and additional info” widget to the lock screen.

Below are all the changes and improvements, as listed by Microsoft.

Windows 11 Build 22635.4082: Changes & Improvements

Notifications

  • If desired, there’s now an option to turn off the suggestions to disable notifications from certain apps. You can now press the “…” within the notification to disable the notification, as you can with other notifications, or you can go to the list of notification senders in Settings > System > Notifications and turn it off from there (called “Notification Suggestions” in the list). Note – this entry will only appear in the senders list after you have received one.

Lock screen

  • We have updated the Lock screen so that the media controls will now show at the lower bottom center of the Lock screen now when media is being played.

Settings

  • We’ve designed the settings page for Delivery Optimization under Settings > Windows Update > Advanced options > Delivery Optimization to match the Windows 11 design principles.
