Sonic the Hedgehog 3 Trailer Features a Surprising Cameo

As a gamer who’s been running through Sonic’s chaotic world since the days of the Sega Genesis, I must say, the new trailer for Sonic the Hedgehog 3 has me spinning with excitement! The nod to the Chao Garden and its inhabitants is a delightful blast from the past that brings back fond memories of raising my own virtual pets in the original Sonic Adventure.

This morning, the long-awaited first teaser for “Sonic the Hedgehog 3” was unveiled, sparking much excitement among Sega enthusiasts. The upcoming film seems to be heavily influenced by the Dreamcast era, with particular emphasis on the game “Sonic Adventure 2”. This game holds a special place in the hearts of Sonic fans, and eagle-eyed viewers might have spotted an intriguing cameo if they looked closely. At exactly 2 minutes and 28 seconds into the trailer, a restaurant themed around Chao Gardens is revealed, with a trio of mascots performing on stage! Seated at the restaurant are Sonic, Tails, and Knuckles, alongside what appears to be Commander Walters of G.U.N., a character confirmed for a return appearance.

If you’re new to Chao, they were introduced in the first Sonic Adventure game and its sequel. Essentially, they were like digital pets that players could nurture in Chao Gardens. These little guys were used for mini-games such as Chao Race and Chao Karate. The feature was a big hit among Sonic fans, and Chao have made appearances in various games since then. However, the Chao Garden feature has been absent from games since Sonic Adventure 2. Sega acknowledges the desire for its return, and they’ve hinted that it may make a comeback in a future game.

In the movie “Sonic the Hedgehog 3,” the inclusion of the Chao cameo might seem unexpected, but considering the increased focus on the Dreamcast era in this film, it fits nicely. Shadow was initially introduced in the Dreamcast game, “Sonic Adventure 2.” Judging by the trailer, it appears his origin story will be accurately portrayed. It’s worth mentioning that Alyla Browne is playing Maria Robotnik, who is a key character in Shadow’s background and also Ivo Robotnik’s cousin. The ending of the trailer hints at Gerald Robotnik, the grandparent of both Ivo and Maria, and the creator of Shadow as depicted in the game.

To date, the Sonic Cinematic Universe has been rather flexible with its Sega origins. Yet, the latest trailer suggests that Sonic the Hedgehog 3 might offer plenty of excitement for gamers who are fans of the original titles!
