Operation Mincemeat stars on taking over roles and Broadway “conversations”

As a seasoned theatergoer with a penchant for British productions that have made their mark across the pond, I can’t help but feel a sense of excitement and anticipation upon hearing about Operation Mincemeat‘s potential move to Broadway. Having witnessed the captivating performances of this brilliant show in London, I can confidently say that the Americans are in for a treat!

As a captivated theater enthusiast, I can’t help but share my excitement over the potential U.S. debut of the critically acclaimed musical, “Operation Mincemeat.” With its Olivier Award under its belt and an impressive nine extension milestones, this creative masterpiece has left quite an impact on London’s theater scene. Rumors are swirling that the creatives behind this hit musical are in discussions about bringing it across the pond. If these conversations prove fruitful, I can hardly wait to immerse myself in the intrigue and drama of Operation Mincemeat on American stages!

Emily Barber, as Ewen Montagu, mentioned that there are many Americans who have been following it and are expressing a strong desire for it to be brought over to them.

In a similar vein, Sean Carey (Charles Cholmondeley) stated, “Given the excitement surrounding this program, it’s no surprise that Americans will find it appealing, as there’s always a soft spot for things British.”

A majority of Broadway enthusiasts seem to concur on this point, as evidenced by a poll conducted in June and distributed through the Operation Mincemeat email list, which reported that an impressive 90.2% of respondents deemed the show as not overly “British for Broadway”.

Chloe Hart (Johnny Bevan) concurred with this point but suggested that some adjustments might be necessary to the shows’ casual British expressions. “From a script standpoint, there will undoubtedly need to be alterations, but I believe that’s just normal for such changes to occur.”

She added that the potential of going to Broadway was a “big moment” for British musical theatre as a whole. “This way round doesn’t happen as often as Broadway shows coming here and I think that could really pave the way for other smaller shows.”

After spending three months in their new roles as headliners, the team pondered the process of succeeding the initial cast.

At first, Hart found it incredibly intimidating, but what he appreciated is that they didn’t aim to replicate exactly the actors from the original cast.

As a devoted fan myself, I can’t help but express my gratitude for the extraordinary support we’ve received, which I fondly refer to as the Minfluencers’ incredible response. Being given the opportunity to perform in the pre-West End run at Riverside Studios was truly fortunate. The moment I stepped onto that stage, I knew exactly how I wanted to bring the character to life. Witnessing this interpretation being received with such warmth and encouragement has been nothing short of amazing.

He went on to explain that since the cast frequently changes roles among different productions, “Fans have cleverly created a bingo card listing all potential duet combinations!”

The current run of this show has been prolonged until January 2025, and the cast are optimistic that Mincemeat will leave an enduring impact. Christian Andrews, who portrays Hester, expressed his belief that this play may run for a considerable period, while Emily Barber, as Ewen Montagu, mentioned meeting young girls at the stage door saying they aspire to play Monty when they grow up, which is a heartwarming experience for her.

So fingers crossed for extension number 10!

When and where can I see Operation Mincemeat?

The “Operation Mincemeat” performance is taking place at the Fortune Theatre, which was once home to “The Woman in Black” for 34 years. This location is on Russell Street, making it conveniently close to Covent Garden. You’ll find your nearest tube stations there: Covent Garden (Piccadilly line) and Temple (serving both the Circle and District lines).

The performance occurs from Mondays through Saturdays, extending up to January 2025 at the moment. Given that it has remarkably been renewed for an unprecedented five seasons, it’s quite likely that it will continue well beyond that time frame.
