As a seasoned gamer with decades of entertainment consumption under my belt, I must say that the upcoming release of “Beetlejuice Beetlejuice” has me more intrigued than a Hot Ones challenge gone awry. The interplay between Michael Keaton and the eccentric Beetlejuice in this Not Ones video is a delightful blend of nostalgia and humor, reminiscent of the good old days when I would stay up late to catch the latest horror-comedy gem on the silver screen.
Prior to the premiere of “Beetlejuice Beetlejuice” next week, Warner Bros. arranged an interview between franchise star Michael Keaton and, you guessed it, Beetlejuice himself. This dynamic duo engaged in a casual conversation over some ribs, with Beetlejuice sampling a spicy sauce in homage to the popular series “Hot Ones”. They’ve nicknamed this spin-off “Not Ones”, using the shrunken head of the hunter from the original “Beetlejuice” as their logo. It seems that Warner Bros. may have missed the fact that Jason Mewes and Kevin Smith had previously done a “Not Ones” session with vegan “chicken wings”, which was intended to promote “Jay & Silent Bob Reboot”, but couldn’t be scheduled in time due to “Hot Ones”.
Among all aspects, what stands out most is perhaps Keaton’s swift frustration towards Beetlejuice, which leads him to give up much more rapidly than anyone has ever succumbed to the heat during a game of Hot Ones.
Following our chat, I must admit that it feels like the sequel to one of the most engaging interviews ever uploaded online – a Hot Ones session with Conan O’Brien. Quite possibly the crown jewel in the vast ocean of digital content!
As a gaming enthusiast, I recently watched the latest video from Not Ones, where Keaton appears, playing both himself and Beetlejuice. Just like you’d anticipate, Beetlejuice was every bit as disgusting and zany as expected!
In a recent interview, Keaton expressed that due to the extensive commercialization of it, he felt compelled to revisit its origins. He wanted to question his original thoughts behind its creation, rather than being surrounded by coffee mugs and golf-club covers bearing the face of Beetlejuice. The widespread influence of Beetlejuice as a character in popular culture presented certain difficulties. “It was quite unsettling,” Keaton confesses honestly – using straightforward language. In essence, he found it disconcerting to see himself represented in so many items and yearned to understand the initial spark that ignited this phenomenon.
Here’s the official synopsis for Beetlejuice Beetlejuice:
Here comes Beetlejuice again! Following an unfortunate family incident, the Deetz clan finds themselves back at Winter River. Even after death, Beetlejuice continues to haunt them. The life of Lydia takes a strange turn when her defiant teenage daughter, Astrid, stumbles upon an odd model of the town in the attic and accidentally activates a gateway to the spirit world. With turmoil brewing on both sides, it won’t be long before someone utters Beetlejuice’s name three times, summoning the trickster ghost to wreak more havoc with his unique brand of mischief.
Beetlejuice Beetlejuice is set to hit theaters on September 6th.
