As a seasoned gamer with decades worth of experience under my belt, I can say that the recent Nintendo Directs have been a rollercoaster ride filled with both anticipation and surprise. While it was disappointing not to hear anything about Hollow Knight: Silksong, the sudden release of four games today has certainly made up for it.
Despite two consecutive Nintendo Directs on Tuesday failing to bring any news about “Hollow Knight: Silksong”, Nintendo did maintain a traditional aspect of their Direct presentations – surprise releases. In both the Indie World Showcase and the Nintendo Direct Partner Showcase, Nintendo confirmed that four games announced during these showcases would be available for release as early as today. Some of these games might turn out to be new favorites due to their unexpected nature and freshness, while others will surely delight fans of established series such as Castlevania.
Although Nintendo Directs have revealed details about four upcoming games, their store pages haven’t been set up yet, meaning we don’t have the exact prices for these games as of now. However, trailers are available for each game, which you can watch below. If any of them catch your eye, keep an eye on the Nintendo eShop listings for more information today.
Peglin
On occasion, the Nintendo Switch receives unexpected releases, and while these can be surprising, they frequently involve games that are already available on other gaming platforms. However, Peglin stands out as a unique case – it’s launching today as a timed exclusive for the Nintendo Switch. This means you won’t find this game playable on any other console until it becomes available elsewhere.
According to Peglin, you’ve been dealing with dragons bursting peglins and swiping your gold for as long as you can recall. It’s high time for action! Journey through the forest, seize control of the fortress, and penetrate deep into the dragon’s den to reclaim what’s rightfully yours and give those dragons a piece of your mind!
Pico Park 2
In the past, the first version of Pico Park was initially launched for PC systems and subsequently made available on the Nintendo Switch. Shortly following this release, it evolved by incorporating multiplayer functionality that enabled up to eight players to collaborate simultaneously. Now, the sequel, Pico Park 2, is arriving on the Nintendo Switch today, promising an escalation of the cooperative chaos with a new dark mode and additional features.
In the announcement for “Pico Park 2“, it’s stated that this is a cooperative 2D action-puzzle game. You can play with 2 to 8 players either locally or online, and surprisingly, up to 7 players can join an online game using just one Nintendo Switch! The number of players doesn’t affect which levels you can play, but keep in mind that there are more levels and a challenging new mode called “Dark Mode” waiting for you.
Pizza Tower
Unlike Pico Park 2 and Peglin, Pizza Tower is a game previously available elsewhere but making its way to the Nintendo Switch. It debuted on PC last year, and interestingly enough, it was motivated by the Wario Land series, which is now returning to its original home on the Nintendo Switch.
In this exciting tale, the nimble and potent pizza maker named Peppino Spaghetti is embarking on a daring quest to demolish the iconic Pizza Tower. His goal? To safeguard his cherished restaurant from impending doom! Join him as he wreaks havoc through the tower’s bizarre levels, gathering toppings and vanquishing foes! Boasting vibrant pixel art reminiscent of ’90s cartoons and an electrifying soundtrack that matches his high spirits.
Castlevania Dominus Collection
During the Indie Direct event, various Nintendo Switch games were displayed, but at the Partner Direct, Nintendo unveiled a major announcement: the Castlevania Dominus Collection. This collection combines three classic games – Castlevania Dawn of Sorrow, Castlevania Portrait of Ruin , and Castlevania Order of Ecclesia – all originally from the Nintendo DS. Now, these games have been upgraded for the Nintendo Switch, along with some additional features.
“The original three Metroidvania games from Nintendo DS are making their comeback on Nintendo Switch, according to a sneak peek. But here’s an exciting bonus: Haunted Castle, the first Castlevania game from the Arcade, is also returning in a fresh new take. This updated version comes with additional features like save states and rewind options, creating a perfect opportunity to confront Dracula and his evil minions!”
