Dungeons & Dragons Returns to Forgotten Realms in 2025

As a seasoned Dungeons & Dragons enthusiast with over two decades of gaming under my belt, I must say that Wizards of the Coast has truly outdone themselves this time! The upcoming releases for 2025 are a treasure trove for any D&D fan, and the focus on the Forgotten Realms is music to my ears.

2025 is expected to bring some exciting new releases for Dungeons & Dragons, with two books dedicated to the world of the Forgotten Realms being among them. Wizards of the Coast has officially revealed this lineup today. The forthcoming titles include a fresh Dragon-themed anthology and a Starter Set that takes inspiration from Keep on the Borderlands. One of these Forgotten Realms books, titled a Player Guide, will delve into new subclasses, feats, backgrounds, factions, and spells for players to explore.

The full descriptions of the new releases were provided by Wizards of the Coast:

  • Dragon Anthology (working title) scheduled for Summer 2025: Everything you need to know about dragons but were afraid to ask, plus ten short adventures that all feature dragons in dungeons!
  • The Forgotten Realms Player Guide (working title) scheduled for Late 2025: New subclasses, feats, backgrounds, factions, and spells from D&D’s most popular setting
  • The Forgotten Realms Adventure Guide (working title) scheduled for Late 2025: A toolbox overflowing with lore and locations to inspire DMs to create endless Forgotten Realms campaigns for players to explore

Significantly, the emphasis on the Forgotten Realms takes players to a familiar ground in the world of Dungeons & Dragons, which is where Baldur’s Gate 3, a highly successful game inspired by D&D, is set. The Sword Coast Adventurer’s Guide was one of the early releases for D&D 5th edition and introduced new subclasses and species to enrich the player experience.

Additionally, wizards revealed that brick-and-mortar gaming shops will enjoy a similar two-week pre-sale period for newly released items, just like those accessible to users on D&D Beyond.
